Next year I spend my academic year abroad in a
german-speaking country. I have a few choices, and
quite a bit of information to get through regarding these candidate
locations.

However, I'm wondering could people with first-hand
knowledge of these places provide me with information
regarding what it'd be like to live there, especially in
terms of nightlife, the music scene, expenses and
availability of accommodation.... Generally what it's like
living there.

I expect people will only be able to furnish me with
information regarding nightlife and the music scene, but, as
always, i'm just risking me arm.

The prospective locations are:

.Vienna
.Bielefeld
.Karlsruhe
.Saarbrücken
.Stuttgart
.Trier
.Tübingen
.Osnabrück
.Munich
.Bremen

Thanks.

"achtung, bitte" is almost a clash of politeness. hrmm

Could you give me any reasons why?

I've been to Munich once - in fact it's the only place in
Germany i've ever been.

It's ultra conservative, but the nightlife seemed fairly
hopping, and the girls were <3.

Still, i can never get over the memory of going up to a
group of hardcore punk / anarchist types in a park, asking
them whether they knew where we could get any weed, and them
laughing and telling us weed is impossible to get around
Munich because of the police and the society; it's that way
because it's so looked down upon.

Not that i want to go on a big drugs bender, but.. that's
not a very good indication, for me, of a good fun city..

do like the entire population of Germany, or in fact any
country in Europe, does - come and visit the Netherlands as
a drugs tourist.

the local populace really enjoys that! :P

already done it <3

sure that shit's stopping after the new year, innit? you'll
need a dutch passport (or, i guess, convincing command of
dutch and a dutch accent) to buy weed in a coffeeshop..
that's what i thought anyways

because all those other cities (with exception of Bielefeld,
Trier, Tübingen and Osnabrück which i don't know) seem to
be a bit unfiendly in those terms you mentioned above...but
then again this has a lot to do with me disliking germany..

too bad you can't choose Berlin, you'd meet up with Jamie
Lidell maybe. Berlin is alright.

I have heard very good things about Vienna. The only other
place i have been on that list is Osnabrück but i only
really saw the train station so i can't say anything about
it.

I know someone from Trier, he says it's really nice.

So either Vienna or Trier.

hmm well what do you wanna know ? nightlife is like
clubbings and house music shit. ~1 time a month there`s some
different happening, breakcore, gameboymusicclub whatever.
from what i`ve been told vienna is quite ok while going out.
personally i find it quite boring ... however i live here
too long to be objective ;)

living depends on how much you earn, lets say 200-400 in a
shared space per month, 300-3000 for a flat :)

send me an email if you want sepix [ta] sepix.net
