[Mag] Wire slates CampfireHeadphase

Latest Wire magazine gives it a shitty review - after
having them on the cover last month. I think its fair
journalism, even if i don't agree with them.. I just
hntought it was amusing all the same.

happy to hear that as i don't think much of the album either
and i have quite a bit of respect for the wire!
although they thought takk was shitty too :)

I think it sucks but I'm sure mine's a fake. It sounded like
a track-by-track rehash of Geogaddi. Without the good bits.

it's still entirely possible (and actually pretty likely)
that it will end up on the best of list at the end of the
year...

i've heard it less than once all the way through in a record
store. i want to like it... i hope i will like it... we'll
see.

offline KEYFUMBLER from DUBLIN (Ireland) on 2005-10-24 10:05 [#01759352]

only heard it a few times. i'll giove it more listens to let
the nuances flow over me.

i have heard the 2nd 2 tracks a lot and they grew on me real
well. i instantly liked dayvan cowboy. So far the rest are
meh.... but i think they'll get better.

The inside cover is a bit overkill. We get the whole
old-photograph thing already!

I bought both Untilted (also slated by everyone it seems)
and The Campfire Headphase this weekend and listened to them
for the first time on the train down to London. It bemuses
me how anyone could be overtly critical of these albums
because they're both frugging brilliant - is there a rule
somewhere that anticipated albums have to be reviewed
negativly despite being great? I remember reading loads of
reviews on Drukqs being rubbish and being surprised at how
awesome it was when I listened to it finally.

The Wire also didn't like Geogaddi much if I recall.

I know it's shit but I really don't want it to
be

This was a no win album for BoC as far as reviews were going
to go...too similar to previous albums and they "haven't
progressed", make a few changes and "it doesn't sound like
BoC, they've lost their magic blah blah blah". Having
listened to the album a lot over the past week and a bit I
think it contains the cynical edge all of their work does
but still makes me yurn for something unexplainable. Most
music journalists are pack animals typing shit without
really listening to an album, especially in electronic music
where more work goes into technically analysing tracks
instead of enjoying the music. I know for a fact some
reveiws are written by peicing together other reviews with
the so called reviewer not listening to the source material
at all.

I love it. It may be my favorite album of the year.

oi!

it all comes down to this album being really boring.

more boring than analord?

these albums because they're both frugging brilliant

That comes down to the beholder though. But there is
something especially in this "scene" if one wants to call it
that. Instead of accepting the album for what it is we tend
to have extreme obsessive "fanboyism" and then often times
boring outlandish critiques. People tend to pick apart
albums almost surgically, like vultures. I think ecnad
really hit it dead on when he posted

"Most music journalists are pack animals typing shit without

really listening to an album, especially in electronic music

where more work goes into technically analysing tracks
instead of enjoying the music."

i could make a more boring compilation out of analords. but
i could also make a much much much better one as well.

I can understand why some would hate it; it can be pretty
"meh" in a lot of places. But I enjoy it as a chill out
thing, just in the backround. It's really relaxing and
pretty atmospheric.

Well I enjoy listening to TCH in the car far more than I do
reading the academic dry wank that is Wire magazine, so
stick that in your fucking end of year list.

I listened to it for the first time today - I was a bit
disappointed. It had about 4 tracks that stuck out - a lot
of it was really quite dull for me, plus, as Obara observed
to me earlier, a couple of the tracks sound like Air.

Yeah, it sounded very similar to Air in places to me. But
then again, I actually really like Air, so it's not a
problem.

Why do you ask that, do you think Hans and I have a similar
literary style?

I’m Hans Christian Andersen,
My pen’s like a babling brook
Pemit me to show you, Dear Sir,
my very latest book,
and if you don't like it
go shove it up your pimhole you greasy, bedridden worm.

I quite like Air but if I want to listen to them I'll put
their music on. I wanted to listen to BoC.

lessons learned today:

there is no such thing as the beholder. the opinion of the
xlter is irrefutable.

and therefore:

the idea of an album receiving both positive and negative
reviews is flabbergasting.

the moment you express your thoughts on an album in a
review, you obviously don't give a shit about music, and
your opinion is entirely based on one-upmanship and
misanthropy. (despite the fact that you likely are just
barely eeking out a living on the piss poor wages that any
music journalist working in this field makes)
