Michael Moore

Just read my friend's copy of "Stupid White Men". This is
probably the most innaccurate, biased and just plain
retatrded book I have ever read in my life. One of his
arguments is "Hitler was bad, so therefore all white people
are bad."
Fucking cretin.

"why didn't you mention NORAD in farenheit?"

Michael "That would be unamerican"

IF I recall correctly, he is being facetious when he makes
that connexion and didn't intend for it to be taken
seriously.

I hate the way loads of impressionable youth think Moore is
some sort of worthy, academic genius when he never even went
to college. I am against Bush and the war in Iraq, *cringes
for saying that* but I think this fella is a fucking
charlatan.
Lazy_article by Christopher Hitchens. I don't agree with
Hitchens pro-war viewpoint, but I do agree that Moore is a
tit.

But that's his whole defence isn't it? If anyone picks up on
one of the gaping holes in his arguments, he can just say
"Oh, it's meant to be funny!" The whole point of the book
was "White People=Bad." Which is a fucking retarded
generalisation.

I doubt you'll win much support by equating Academic Genius
or Worth with a College Education... I'll think you'll find
that plenty of Academic Geniuses never went to College...
you don't have to have attended an 'academy' to have
academic genius. Fair enough you don't like Moore, but if
you start using that sort of rubbish as an argument you are
tarring yourself with the same brush which you accuse him of
using.

If he had been to college and written a few term papers,
maybe he would be capable of presenting a coherent argument
now.

I don't like him, ok he is good for warning the american
people that their country suck but that's all : his films
are boring and really biased.

Haven't seen this. I don't know if it'll be a truthful and
fair critique of Moore, or just right wing bluster.

I read about when it was being produced .. the title sounds
quite Opinionated though, which is always dangerous if you
are presenting a 'documentary' for consideration.

Oughta go for a beer or 20 sometime, Marl!

Swears, he doesn't really try to hide his bias against
Moore, and just as there was something to learn from even
Moore's stuff, there's definitely something to learn from
Wilson's view of what makes America great.
At least because Moore's stuff is relatively extremist and
not a proper documentary (or imo what one should be) and
this completes the picture.. asinus asinum fricat :)

I think Moore is a sloppy thinker - basically an
entertainer. He goes for dramatic effect over substance and
could use a lot more fact-checking. He's an easy target for
right wingers - they don't even have to bother contructing a
straw man argument to vilify liberalism, because hey,
Moore's already cobbled together a caricature of liberalism
to beat up on.

Yes he is the typical dumb liberal: white people suck, let's
nationalise everything, isn't Sweden great, immigration
isn't a problem, big business sucks, let's patronise gays
and racial minorities, war is always wrong, etc, etc. The
right wing love this shit.

you can slate moore all you want, but i think one of the
best things he's done is bring to the attention of many
people some of the biggest problems with western society. ok
his method does make himself vunerable to counter attack,
but still, you cannot deny that his subject matter is still
important and needs addressing.

moore is two things: a wake-up call for certain people and a
useful idiot for "the dark side." He is indeed very biased
in his use of sources, but he is still onto something at
times, and hopefully he's made some people inquire into
these things on their own so that they can decide for
themselves what they think.

Ok, white people do suck, that's a no brainer. Bush is an
arsehole, the whole world would agree. The quote that moron
Swears took out of context "Hitler was bad, so therefore all
white people
are bad." shows him up to be a fuck weasle. What are we
arguing here again? That the petrol/military economic model
is the best so we can all type bullshit on the internet.
That's.... progressive.

I thought Moore was quite intelligent, if extreme, until he
appeared on the O'Reilly Factor and was made to look stupid
by Bill.

Why do we fall over ourselves to lampoon anyone that dare
criticise, even if it's clumsily, the oil barons that
threaten our lives?

when he makes good arguments, no one understands. when
people understand his arguments, these are weak.

It wasn't that. It was just he must have know O'Reilly was
going to ask him the questions he was asked and he had no
proper reply, he just kept quoting statistics and couldn't
name their source, O'Reilly had official UN statistics to
hand etc. It just further discredited Moore dispite the
fact he has some very valid arguements to made.

The other problem with Moore though is that he uses
sentimentality and ridicule to drive his point home and
often it leaves him looking as though he is a bit of a smart
arse. The oil barons rule the world.

it's so convenient that o'reilly alway has his statistics on

wonder why that is.

Hmm. I don't think of him as some sacred cow but, at least
he does have a go when we don't, and even if he's emotive...
surely he's doing it for the right reasons. I couldn't go,
"No, no, those figures are wrong, the Bush administration is
100& commited to.." how do we know, what figures? Have we
compiled those figures, at that level... If the guy was
wrong full stop, fine, have a go. If his figures are
shaky... yeah, well him and everyone in office. And then
someone ill informed like Swears going by what his Dad told
him, vomitting it onto a music messageboard.... oh fuck off.

Because most of them are stupid yes people. However Moore
agreed to do the interview...he should have been fully
prepared. I would have done a better job myself.

Yes I agree Moore is good for doing what he does, I think he
loses credibility sometimes purely through actions. He does
seem to be a person who genuinely cares, something all too
rare in this selfih world.

Swears obviously watches O'Reilly as well...a show dedicated
to Mexican hating xenophobes and people who dispise the
loony left.

Bill O'Reilly doesn't use sentimentality :) He doesn't even
know the meaning of the word. He tries ridiculing until it
doesn't work at which stage he does launches a tirade of
high volume abuse at the person disagreeing with him.

oh sure he does, albeit a heavyhanded, patriotic kind of
sentimentality.

like the famous case of the son of one of the people who
died in the twin towers, who came on "the o'reilly factor"
and said (to paraphrase in short) it was the US government's
fault. O'Reilly constantly told him how his father would be
ashamed of him, how did he dare shame his father like this,
how would this make his mother feel, etc.

like I said, it's sentimentality with the subtlety of a
sledgehammer and probably even falser than anyone else can
ever use it, but still.. if O'Reilly can find a nice juice
piece of rhetoric, he'll slap it in your face before you can
say "Karl Rove".

Bill O'Reilly is just insane.
