anyone here have a preferred vocoder? we've used the
microkorg and the roland vp330, but i'm looking for
something new that's warm and intelligible.

also, under 65 lbs. is a plus.

I have an electrix warp factory mkII... it was U.S. $160
slightly used on ebay, though I think they go for around
200-250 new. It has its own oscillator for robot voice type
sounds, or you can hook up any sound sources you want to be
vocoded; I use my 2 synths and they sound pretty lush
through it.. the only problem is that I often have trouble
setting it so that you can clearly understand what I am
saying, though I guess that might be a problem with many
vocoders. besides the one on the microkorg, this is the only
vocoder I have ever used.

welcome to the board, by the way.

oh and the warpfactory is about 8-10 lbs I think. It's got a
full metal chassis so it's pretty solid too... I dropped
mine from about 5 feet from the ground and it still works
like a charm.

The Alesis Ion has a vocoder as one of it's EFFECTS meaning
you've got a LOT of different sounds to vocode. It only
weighs 20lbs/9kg, apparently. I thought it weighed a lot
more.

thanks!
i think i'll try the warpfactory.

the old roland is great, but taking it out is becoming less
than practical
