I want to buy a turntable, but i don't really want some fancy smanchy turntable, just something cheap that can play vinyls. I wouldn't mind getting something second hand, made in the 80's or 90's but if I can find a new relatively affordable, and reliable turntable I wouldn't really mind.
Any suggestions?
(Also, if you know of any place online selling old electric console organs please let me know)

Look in the classified ads. There's usually tons in my local paper. I don't know about South Africa though.

i'll check the classifieds at the end of the month.
i'm also wondering about replacing needles and all kinds of jazz involved in maintaining a player. i recently acquired some really old vinyls but i'm completely ignorant about the player. please anyone spew as much as you know about this, without getting too technical (in lamens terms).

I just buy new needles now and again and pick off the fluff. I don't really know much about the technical side of decks.

you can get a pretty good deck for about 260 quids.
if it's for listening, get a belt drive... rega, planar, project do good entry level stuff.
make sure your amp has a 'phono' input, otherwise you'll need to budget for a phono amping/grounding stage.
stylus replacement... about every three months with heavy usage, every six with medium domestic use.
make sure you get someone who knows what they're doing to help you with headshell/cartridge alignment, and tracking weight.
hope that helps.

if you're just listening I agree with pylon: rega or project. the one sam linked should work just perfectly for what you need.
make sure the cartridge you get matches the turntable, though.

you'll need good headphones, though...
my headphones cost half of what my speakers cost.. just ask yourself if it's worth it buying headphones now and speakers later...

please don't listen to combo.
yes the 1200/1210's are the club dj standard. yes they're hardwearing, great for scratching, have direct drive quartz driven motors, a super heavy platter etc etc.
but they don'tt do sound reproduction especially well. subtlety isn't their strongpoint... and for a listening deck, you could get ten times the quality of sound for the same price.

you seem knowledgable, would you say an extra $200 (114gbp) would be worth it for this difference?:
debut Speed variance ±0,8 % Wow and flutter ±0,12 % Signal to noise -65dB
1 xpression Speed variance ±0,5 % Wow and flutter ±0,1 % Signal to noise -70dB
The debut also comes with an Ortofon cart which seems slightly better than the AT cart or is it not?

i've never heard the xpression, so i couldn't say.
that is a fairly minimal step up in specs for 114 quid though...
i would suggest you have a listen to both... and also bear in mind that the accoustic environment/sppeaker placement, and even the resonance of the platform you put your deck on will colour the sound more than a 0.02% difference in flutter measurements.
