This seems like a really obscure band! And a huge production. I have Scatology, scary stuff indeed!
What do you recommend? Any site that has good recommendations?

There are lots of good releases, but for now I would recommend 'Musick to Play in the Dark (vol. 1)'

I agree with you on that. Vol. 2 really stays in your head. Most of Coil's albums have something to them. They are very different from one another and you have to fit the mood, but it's quite an emotional journey.
I feel strange saying that

With 20 years worth of material, they have done a lot of different things.

Scatology and Horse Rotorvator are my favorites, get Gold is the Metal with the Broadest Shoulders for more of that kind of Coil. Barely any two of their albums sound alike though so you're in for a ride. Put on your theet belt.

"love's secret domain" is quite great.
it's almost like a commentary of commercial dance music at the beginning of the '90s.

do they have to be commenting? can't they just make music that they want to make? does the record need that subtext to be worthwhile? maybe it's the sound of commercial dance music, having been buried alive, clawing frantically at the lid of the casket.
i couldn't help wondering.

no, it doesn't. I liked the album before I knew that, it doesn't really change how I approach the music, it's just a nice addition.
