There's plenty of good stuff comming out these days, and then some great un-signed artists doing good stuff too. It's not worse then how the scene was in previous years...

it's the day and age of money. money periodically ruins the music scene until something trully innovative is created, to then be copied and rehashed in the hope of money, goddamnit!

i made an awesome compilation just last night..plenty of fantastic music there!! i could make 10 80 minute compilations without a problem, and they would all sound interesting. there :)
unless you're talking about electronic music..i couldn't manage more than 3 or 4 interesting compilations of that crap :D

Yeah. The impression I get is that it is considered good to be retro now by magazines and people in general (as far as I know-I could be wrong.) Mind you, a lot of stuff that supposedly looks forward hurts my ears; I guess there are some gems that are something new, yet "accessible"-and a lot of the music discussed here is a nice balance, imo. I've just been listening to Tundra 4 by Squarepusher; a good example of what is possible, I reckon.

It only seems dead to those of us who've practically heard everything, every genre. There are artists who are still bursting with creativity, maybe you need to look in other places now.
Perhaps this old story will shed some light. *ahem*
How recycle got his Groove Back. One day Mr.X decided to take electronic music where it's never been. All the Y's and Z's thought WOW this is new! And they assimilated a new ability, the ability to be unconventional with music. Many years passed, and many exciting albums were made. And on one day, years after the first afformentioned 'one day' Mr. A and Mr. E decided to take it further, but never knew the implications of what they were about to do. They sucked the scene up dry and eventually the categorizeless genre imploded in the year 200X. It was a sad day, recycle even made a thread about it. But Gwely Mernans pointed out that there is infact, hope.
The End.

There's loads of fantastic unsigned/relatively unheard-of stuff out there. I've come to realise this recently - been playing at lot of it on Mishkas, so give that a listen.
