well, last night my brother and i kicked some serious ass
in gradius iii on snes. i got that game for xmas
thirteen years ago, and we still can't get past that
really fast moving level. anyone know which one i'm talking
about? also, any tips on how to get past it? of course i
could use the extra lives cheat, but i've a ton of nintendo
power mags to go through to find it.

share your gradius experiences.

You'd probably want to check LAZY_TITLE

I used to have the Japanese version. I've since traded it,
so I can't check how, but I definately completed it a few
times. The fast moving level is a tricky one, sorry I can't
remember how to beat it, I don't think there was a
particular 'trick' to it, just persistence and learning the
level so you can react before things come on screen.

yeah i think that's what it's all about. just getting to
know the tight spots and how many speed ups you need.

I'm not a big fan of memory shooters (with exception to
ikaruga) I prefer the more frantic ones (like dodonpachi,
that game is wicked)

Yeah, "memory" shooters is a very fitting description; the
memorizing aspect is annoying. Another feature that has been
cloned in this genre again and again is having to pretty
much keep your first life throughout the entire game, or
else you'll lose all your powerups and be totally screwed
(abadox for nes is the most extreme in this department and
pisses me off).

I'm interested in dodonpachi now...

Another one of these memory shooters is thunder spirits. It
has cooler trippier graphics than gradius or r type.

i did an image search for "thunder spirits" and found a
picture of a horse chewing bubble gum.

dodonpachi looks really good, i'll have to check this out!
screen shots that obviously won't compare to actual
gameplay:
one
two
three
four
