do some artist's names turn you off?

reason i ask is because when i'm at a record store or
looking online for some music... i feel that if a name
doesn't impress me... i won't give that artist a chance...

for example... shitmat...

i haven't heard any of shitmat's material because i don't
like the name...

does that make any sense to you?

There's a great movie called "the princess bride" but the
title and cover of the box looks gay.

Had no idea what a kenedy was and I was like 6 or 7 so I
couldnt really care less about half the crap they were
talking about heh.

Cannibal Corpse is a turn-off for me.

Cannibal Ox, on the other hand, is quite nice. I'm such an
opinionated bastard. = P

Sometimes but not really. Seems like artists with names that
repel me, like Anal Cunt and Shitmat, bore me anyway. The
opposite is very true though, I'll look into artists just
because they have a rad name, and it will actually enhance
the experience. Sort of queer. Tuxedomoon, I saw that name
without knowing who they were and I knew they were going to
be divine and they were. If they were called Bertha Bang, it
would really annoy me.

I know what you mean. I used to despise the band
"eyehategod" because I thought it was a cheap way to come
across hardcore. It turns out I actually like the music.

Any death metal band that has an album cover depecting
something "gross" or "controversial" i will never give the
time of day. Too gimmicky.

death metal, gimmicky? like idm isn't at all gimmicky...
ugh!

cannibal corpse fucking rawk along with brutal truth,
carcass, napalm death and etc. etc. etc.

Well I suppose if you're browsing a file list on slsk
deciding which artist to download that you havent heard yet,
the name would influence your decision right?

I've listened to my share. You have to admit that compairing
the two is kind of rediculous.

On one hand you have a genre which is based on things like:
Death, Torture, Mutilation, Rape, Satanism etc etc etc and
is very often not original (as there are very few original
concepts)

And on the other hand you have people who focus on the
technical aspect of music and appreciate sound. The only
gimmicky factors of IDM would be shit named tracks (untitled
or various letters or numbers) and supposed piss takes

Not very compairable. If you like cannibal corpse i would
advise you to check out jungle rot.

Yeah, stuff with really generic names that make you think
its a generic artist of that genre, Shitmat for example
sounds like another forgettable 'shocking' breakcore guy,
Ghostface Killa sounds like a rubbish gangsta rapper etc...
Four Tet sounds like someone really really boring for some
reason

death metal not technical enough for you? so then it should
be safe for me to assume here that you do not play guitar?
considering death metal, excuse me, good death
metal is insanely intricate. and justice for all was
written entirely on piano. and the structuring on that same
album carefully crafted i'd say. could be wrong, that's
just my opinion tho...

i will check out jungle rot, if i can fit in my busy
schedule, you know... 15 hrs on here today, i am wiped out.

kthxbye,
<3\/01

I've played guitar for quite some time. The right things can
be technical (lamb of god's DVD worth checking out)

and i have also listened to the death metal category to some
extent.

The thing here is that as "metal fans" we find ourselves
disagreeing. Also no agreement can be reached as we are
opinionated.

Let us agree to disagree.

P.S - The "and justice for all" comment didnt help as its
not death metal but i do get your point

it is an a way death metal but not death metal in the sense
of death metal... whateva.

but yeah i agree that we can disagree on virtue of opinion.

you into hXc? cuz i'll recomend you a dvd, "hellfest vol
I-III"

try this

alot of good hxc punk sxe and such. i saw some super rare
videos aswell.

I am really liking crowbar, sleep, lamb of god at the
moment.

Lamb is the shining example right now. It happens once every
ten years.
70s= sabbath
80s = slayer
90s= pantera
00s= lamb

also if reflex still posted here you would get along
hardcore i feel. Like a perfect married couple.

He liked that stuff too. nausum is good for the record.

and "hammer smashed face" is the cannibal song that keeps me
listening. Sometimes when you are boozing it, it keeps you
going. I saw their DVD (forgot which one) but alot of it (if
not all) was shot at the rave right here in milwaukee

some great bands that have come about semi recently;
mastadon, at the gates and almost every band
on facedown records, imo. although earache has always had a
bad ass roster line up as well!! fuck, we could go on for
eternity if we mentioned all the crazy ass music we listen
to hahahaha! children of bodom, dimmu borgir, shai hulud,
bane, blah blah blah etc etc etc

i talked to reflex for a minute a long time ago when i first
registered at afx.nu, then just kinda ran out of steam for
some reason. i think i was just consumed with life at that
point, anyways...

musically i'm pretty much all over the map, i guess i kinda
just spread myself thin sometimes, such as with hXc metal.
so i can't get into it as much as i'd like. same could be
said for idm w/me as well.
