I am looking into a couple desktop synthesizers at the moment. Two to be exact (and one I actually bought on ebay and am just waiting for it to arrive). Here they are; 1- 2- Both retail for under 500. the one I ordered was the sh32. I shall obtain myself an evolver as soon as I finish paying off my MPC. Anybody have any experience with either of these? I am very excited. The arpregiator layering of the sh32 seems like a lot of fun. |

I`d say go invest that money into something a little better and less branded DESKTOP synth. 500 is enough to get some really top notch second hand stuff. Anyway this is what I would do ... |

IF you really want a wanky desktop thing go check out the DARKSTAR. I hear great things about it, it is a desktop synth and it is really cheap. |

they go for osmething like 100 pounds second hand these days they aint bad, im not a fan though :( i still wish id bought that korg ms20 when i ahd the money |

oxygenfad: I don't know. That doesn't look anything close to the evolver, and its the same price. The roland unit cost me $200. Taffmonster: if I found a nord modular for around $500 maybe, but in Canada that equals $850 and a bit more pricey. I would rather just save up and get a nord lead 3 or something. I know people who have nord lead threes and they rave about them. I haven't heard much about the modular. Redrum: your just dishing out the quality responses, aren't you. Seeing as I don't have a licence, nore the inclination to pay 200 dollars to park downtown a month, 140 dollars a month for insurance and another 200 dollars a month for gas, then that kind of seems like a stupid idea. |

i have the ks rack and the remote 25 both are really good for the money the pair cost me around 400 pounds (i bought em seperatly mind) ive not seen the x station before so i dunno if its kool or not i imagine its basically the same as the k station its wierd how they ahve varrying degrees of the same synth |

i think its the same, except this includes the audio interface and USB, so you dont need any cables (audio included) and has 2 inputs... so its kind of like a workstation... can be your main synth, can be a controller, an audio interface, and an FX unit all in one beast. |

Zeus: I actually have the xstation 25, and its quite a good unit. The velocity sensitivity on the sliders and xy pad is a bit unreliable tho. Taffmonster: What I mean is, 500 english pounds works out to about 850 canadian dollars, which is out of my price range. Also, it would be using english voltage which doesn't work in canada. For only 100 dollars more, I could easily find a used nord rack 3 and I would gladly grab that. |

Forget the roland, get the evolver ->better sounds. The roland suffers from the affliction of being a roland produced after 1990, the evolver is good, but has cons, like a pants interface, but its sounds are very enjoyable. |

no. i was considering getting one, but the cheaper one is not what I want, and the poly evolver is too expensive for what it is. They're nice, and if I had lots of money I would get one, but I can spend my money on better things. If the poly evolver (the rack mount one) was cheaper then I would get it, but its just overpriced, when you consider a nord modular in comparason for example.The Nord is not a huge amount more, but can do lots more! |

the evolver is awesome. my housemate has one and its amazing. see about getting a second hand nord or something. i got an ex-demo Nord 2x rack for £400 and its awesome. 4 voices too. |

I am not really asking for advice on these. I am getting them. I was just wondering if anybody had any stories or such about them. Right now, its hard to get cheap used gear in canada. Not impossible, but its just as much luck as it is work to get them, and I am not exactly lucky. I tried ebay, but everything there is so damn expensive, you might as well be paying the price you would in the store. If I were english, that wouldn't be a problem, because there seems to be a surpluss of cheap gear seeping out of the woodwork in that place, but the british power supply won't work over here, so its not an option for me. First thing I am getting next, will be a theremin. The next is the evolver. The modulation routings look amazing with that piece of gear, expecially for the price. As well, they are designed to be daisychained, so if I get two running, that half of a poly evolver, for half the price. As well, I am hoping to get some great sharp ambient sounds out of it. After its recorded, and then digitally processed on my computer in post, I am expecting good things. After that its a nord lead or rack 3. Altho the multi-assignable mod wheel (which is super easy to assign across any number of parameters) available with the lead three makes me almost totally set on that. The reason I want the sh-32, is it seems to be the perfect tool for some post-acid ambient sounds, which is what I want to use it for, also sequenced through the mpc. |

Basically it sounds good but the interface is a bastard to get around. And segmented LEDs are taking the piss in this day and age. |
