is music a stimulant?

do you agree that music is a stimulant? scientifically, is
it actually a qualifiable stimulant?

is music actually physiologically addictive..

i think that it is indirect. for example; you hear fat
beats, voluntarily or involuntary --> you decide that you
like them. so your brain gives the message to the endocrine
system... and you feel good.

personal experience; autechre 2001, dj krush 2003,
skrunchface 2004, autechre 2005 ... the sounds and the beats
made the hair stand up on my neck. how does the sequence of
beats create human physical response? the hair-on-neck
phenomena actually has to do with hormones.

why do beats sound "good", though, what is it about the
timing and repetition of phat soundz?

personally, what seperates a good show or album from a bad
one is this demand for a full-on physical ass-shaking
response, or when that response is just all in the brain and
you phase

if it's biological, does that mean that all people should
like the same music? or does it mean that musical tastes can
be inherited through from our parents genes?

i have my doubts.

I haven't a fucking clue, and i don't think there's really
an answer. If there is, then here is not the place to find
it. Ears, brains, um, hairs on necks, it's all just
frippery. We like music and then we dance or say wow and
then we smile and go to bed. That's it, dudeman.

Music is a stimulant yeah, but to awnser the question why we
like such music, it's probably on what your musical
preferences are or because of the mishmash of artists and
albums you have heard over time.

Apparently heavy bass sounds stimulate your primal "fight or
flight" mechanism, causing rise in adrenalin etc.

avart: serious? thats really cool.

rotunda: heavy bass punches and kicks sort of ignite the
destructive spirit. it makes sense because physically they
are the most potentially 'destructive', versus high and med
freq sounds - though i supposed you could still destroy
someone with med or hi freq sounds

good example: at the AE show in austin this year, the venue
was the 2nd floor of this building downtown. floor was
wooden. between me and several other guys jumping around,
and the music, i thought the floor was going to BREAK.

there is no kind of link between liking a beat and the
endocrine system. you can like depressing beats btw.

like people already said, not scientifically a stimulant -
like say caffeine is - have you ever read Dune by frank
herbert,

there is this character, actually very minor character who
is addicted to "semuta" semuta is a combination of taking a
narcotic and listening to music to enchance the effects -
this is only science fiction, but there is not doubt about
the reality of this. music enchances mood

my wife works with elderly people and she always says that
even the most brain dead out of the bunch will respond to
music, if she plays a popular tune from back in the day,
they will gleam with a look of familiarity and even get up
to dance!

probably because music works on a more abstract level.

music totally emits a feeling of euphoria... there are many
tracks i've heard in the past that has done this to me...

on the subject of bass... my eyes roll up to the back of my
head when i first hear ae tracks with deep sub bases... i.e.
gelk, ccec, suppiere, the last couple minutes of augmatic
disport... a bunch of others.

I sometimes put music to women that I have crushes on. Like
girl with ponytail that I see around town is
"Pwsteal.Ldpinch.D". ..Corrupted girl is "Backdoor.Ranky.S"
for example
