what are your thoughts on 'outside in'? also compared to
his previous work?

am i right to say he went a bit more pop this time?

damn, the more i listen to it the weaker it sounds :(
i wish there was something subtle to it, but i just can't
hear it..it sounds a bit cheesy even. it has some nice
interesting turns but overall it sounds too easylistening,
background music..is it just me?

this album is far more accessable than a lot of his other
work, and yeah, the more I listen to it, the weaker it
sounds, which is a shame because I had REALLY good first
impressions of it,

audiotourism, on the other hand gets better the more I hear
it...

you have more freeform than I have, I think.

at first I didn't like it very much and I got this idea that
he might be better in short doses (I didn't like "human" all
that much either, but I did already love the "wildcat" EP,
but that's only one EP so.. oh dear.) but this new album has
started to grow on me.

and it is filled with subtle little sounds I think (for
example the progression in sounds used on "magic tap" or the
build-up in "puzzle"). I think a lot of it has that same
effect that (for me) "tewe" on "chiastic slide" has - I
can't exactly hear the melody but I get to fill in a
lot myself (the 2nd track "taking me over" is a good
example, I think).

I do think he has his own distinctive sound. I also can see
why you'd think it's cheesy - he borders on it some time,
maybe uses the singing a bit too much. for me he really tips
over that border in that track with the Brazilian carnival
kind of drum track in the background - I can't remember the
name of the track, but that one is just too cheesy for me.

Pattern Tub, Green Park, Audio Tourism and Wildcat are the
best Freeform releases in my book. Top-notch.

I did like "audio tourism" too, yes. uses source sounds
really well in that.

great, just what i needed, thank you!

i've only listened to it couple of times so far, so i'll
play it few more times now and see what happens.. i normally
wouldn't because i really found it that disappointing so
far, but if you say it's growing on you it might grow on me
as well. anyway, i have until 29th to write that review so
hopefully it's going to inspire me before that.

i don't know how much freeform i've got really..most stuff i
have is stuff that isn't exactlly his really..he definitely
has a sound of his own but this went in a direction fourtet
and manitoba went (not same kind of music, but they all seem
to have gone more pop..).

i really like this one. i got human and audiotourism as
well. audiotourism drives me round the fucking bend. i hate
it! but i like the other two, but took me a while to get
into human. outside in (or whatever its called) i liked
straight away. so there.

what i couldn't send yesterday because of connexion
problems... ctrl-v

to me that's a great release. i love the use of acoustic
instruments/samples, i rarely hear music where acoustic
playing and samples sequencing/processing fit so well
together. there is really a mood/atmosphere in each track.
the "time stand
stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiill"
effect in track 4 is really a simple yet clever thing, that
is not here just to make an impression or create a surprise,
but to get a verbal meaning across. it really speaks to me.
that said i don't get the general meaning of the lyrics
because i don't uinderstand english well enough, so maybe
they're shit, i don't know. track 6 is loveliness. there are
very few tracks in electronic music with such sensitivity
imo. i used to love track 7 in the tdr video that's on the
warp dvd, and i couldn't tell if i love this track so much
because of the video (that almost moved me to tears). i love
its atmosphere though for sure. i wish i could do this.
don't like the carnival track. i think the tracks after that
less impressed me, but i love freeform's sound (which is
subtle and special) so even if the track speaks less to me i
still enjoy hearing it, because of the sounds and the
attention brought to the details, how the sounds are placed
in the spectrum/time dimensions. one of my favourite recent
purchases (if not the first of those).
