yeah, been working on a track called "our hero has fallen",
it's a sort of a "story telling track" with fairly video
gamish "hero beats the dragon" style melodies, most of the
melodies in the track are made out of jazz guittar, trumbone
and myself "moaning" but it's not jazzy or anything like
that.
There's allot of drums in the track too, not as upfront as I
usually do but still pretty detailed programming with allot
of recorded "metal bangs", hits with "sticks" etc, works
pretty well with the theme of the track I guess/hope.

The "story telling" part of the track is the hardest bit to
get right, it's hard to make it sound "not-gay"... So I
might need to re-recorded bit's of it, use different fx on
the voice etc, perhaps even skip it totally ? Im in need of
other peoples opinions here so feel free to help me out.

The track can be found heeere at my zebox and the full
title is Our hero has fallen (Heroic version)

Haha, good day

if you wanna do this kind of story telling. you'd better go
completly over the top with it. push it even further. I dig
it.

funny track! nice drums, but the melody, which is good in
itself, could be better if played on better instruments...
sometimes it sounds too pitched and "wrong."

who is bogdan ?

push it further you say.. ahmm, you mean like exagerate the
tone of the voice more ? making it sound even more childish
? more like a kids tale or something ?. I dont have much
room left in the track to expand the different phrases, I
dont want to throw the whole rearangement around just to fit
more voice in there as im quite happy with the layout and
lenth of the track.

hmm hmm who did you say bogdan was ?

yeah, it's a jazz note from the guittar being bended, I then
pitched it down an whole octave, I know that that stuff
sounds weird but i really like it =D

yeah, some of the notes sound good, but there are others
where you can almost hear that everything is pitched.. like
you hear the background noise/hum being pitched.. the
noise/hum isn't audible really, but it's just.. something
one picks up.

are you telling me you don't know bogdan raczynski?
check some stuff of him. he uses his silly voice over drill
type of drums and stuff.

ow! either I have forgotten about some noise being pitched..
or I dont have the ears to hear it.. it was a while ago
since i finished this version of the track.. have not
focused much on mixing it etc, im probably gonna add/remove
allot of details, do some fine EQ on pretty much everything
and so, so hopefully i can eliminate some problems.

Can you give me an exampe of where you hear that noise being
pitched ? i would like to hear it so i can change it

well, it's not noise per se.. it's.. harmonics maybe... when
you strike a string on a guitar, there isn't only one tone
being played (on pianos, for instance, each tone is produced
by a hammer hitting three strings...) there are also several
other sounds being produced, like resonance from the
guitar-case and harmonics and resonance from the other
strings that also vibrate. This makes it rather easy to hear
when something is pitched as these extra sounds for some
reason always sound weird when not pitched to some special
pitches.. what these pitches are varies from source to
source... I'm about to start ranting so I'll stop there and
hope you get what I mean...

ive heard the name, but I never heard his stuff... Ill check
it out. Bogdan raczynski is his artist name right ?

ive heard people saying that my music reminds them of
bogdans, why have i not checked him out before ?.. could be
fun to see how fucking off people can be haha =D

haha, I understand, I thought you mean "noise" like recorded
whitenoise or similar.. but luckely that wasnt the case!

I can hopefully eliminate all things sounding weird (in a
bad weird way) when I dig into the mixing part of it all....
Im trying to force myself not to mix too much at the earlyer
states of a track these days as it totally kills my
creativity

i think this is great. it's very quirky and weird. i can't
remember hearing anything quite like this before - it's very
enjoyable. i definitely think you should make more tracks
like this. great idea.

i really like the bit with the sword sound effects. it
would be cool to design the sounds more with the words like
that. sound effects as part of the music.

yeah, that was my thought.. those sound fx are actually made
out of two garden tools being drawded against each other
haha.. not really SWORDS =D

this is really great but you can hear some of the
instruments pitched which makes them sound very cheesy. If I
were you I'd do the voice really low. Like movie trailer
style lowness. I would also bring the beats more foward as
they currently sound a bit low pass. This has great
potential but there is room for tweaking. Do keep at it, I'd
love to hear the final outcome.

Hmm, I cant see the problem with the synths and recorded
sounds at all really, Im happy with the tones, it sets the
right emotion for the "hero" theme of the track in my
opinion.. About the beats.. Ive been having trouble mixing
the beats lately, Im never satisfied at all, if I have too
much high it sticks my ears and if I remove it things loses
the feel, Im actually considering to mix in my old
headphones becouse they dont have as much high as the newer
akg I use.
Besides that, Im happy with the level of the breaks, I want
them to be fairly low, im tired of "punch in the face
snares" I want to leave just as much room for the music.

Im not sure what you mean by "tweaking" either, im sure it
needs more/better mixing, but if you mean tweaking like
"messing up the beats" then I have to say that in my opinion
it doesnt need much more of that, the track is not to be too
extreme, it's suppose to be one of the more calmer easy
listened tracks on me and lucidikahs new thing. The biggest
problem in my opinion right now with the track is choosing
how the speech should sound, what pitch, tone, pan etc.. and
another problem is getting the bass at the later part to
sound less muddy, it's a really muddy wav sample so the
mixing ive done on it allready have improved it allot but im
still not quite happy with it.

Wow, now im babbling. I need a break from making music for
about two days... I get pissed of when the mixes doesnt turn
out the way I want them to... And this track is probably one
of my easyest mixed tracks im working on right now... got
another 10min long tune that is pure hell to mix, doesnt
matter what I do as I cant get the breaks to work at all in
that track. Blah

good day =D and thanks for listening

hahaha! Classic!

One whole pallet fell off my truck and someone called it in
before i could turn around to get it. The boss was real real
pissed. No damages or injuries. Just a pallet in the road.

That just may open some times for music making some more but
right now i am focused on my bills and collecting
unemployment.

Good to see you though! :D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
