Inspired by the newly shining sun and a new kitten calender
I have on my wall, I've been tweaking a 60s/early 70s pop
mix the last few days. I think most of you wouldn't like
this, but I'm posting it anyway because it's cool and a
drive through the country this afternoon with a beta-version
of this mix was really GEAR. I'm still working on it and I'm
open to suggestions. The Beach Boys track for example is
iffy in my mind. I can't make up my mind and I can't use
anything over 3 minutes and 15 seconds.

This is the pussiest pop mix ever.

The Yellow Balloon- Stained Glass Window
Sagittarius- Song to the Magic Frog (Will You Ever Know?)
Harry Nilsson- Cuddly Toy
Billy Nicholls- Life is Short
Hapers Bizarre- Me, Japanese Boy
Curt Boettcher- Baby it's Real
Roger Nichols and the Small Circle of Friends- Don't Take
Your Time
The Beach Boys- Don't Worry Baby
The Strawberry Alarm Clock- Sit with the Guru
The Merry Go Round- Time Will Show the Wiser
Montage- She's Alone
The Millenium- 5 AM
The Inner Dialogue- Look at Me
The Beatles- Martha My Dear
The Palace Guard- Falling Sugar
The Zombies- Tell Her No
The Rotary Connection- Turn Me On
Lothar and the Hand People- Comic Strip
The Clique- Holiday
Wendy and Bonnie- The Paisley Window Pane
Mary Hopkin- Goodbye
Duncan Browne- On the Bombsite
Emitt Rhodes- Somebody Made for Me
October Country- Good to Be Around
The Peanut Butter Conspiracy- You Should Know
The Monkees- Pleasant Valley Sunday
Paul Williams- So Many People
Pete Dello- There's Nothing I Can Do For You
The Free Design- Kites are Fun

If you're a part of the in-crowd and you're into this shit,
I already uploaded it, it's here and it's queer.

one of the mp3s had an annoying bubbly glitch -- i forget
which since i deleted it -- but overall this mix is fun in
the sun. the fact that you put of all the mp3s separate in
the bag of goodness adds to my enjoyment.

five rays of sunshine out of five.

Thankth for lithening, thweetheart (even though I altered
the mix since then)! Yeah a couple of the mp3s were
unspeakably awful quality, including one ripped from vinyl
that sounded like it was from the Byzantine empire. I think
I'll make a modern twee mix pretty soon, there was a ton of
songs I kept wanting to put on here until I realized they
were only a few years old. The tradition is still strong.

i've been listening to this mix a lot, especially since i
don't have much 'summer' music. i'm going to fav this topic
and hope you post in here when that potential modern twee
mix is finished so i'll be able to grab it right away.

cool tunes, is there a suggested track order?

Not really. That list up there is sort of like what I have
on disc. The only logic is:
A- The Yellow Balloon first because it's sort of a
prototypical sunshine pop song, with the baroque influences
and sing along part and the strings/piano, sets up the rest
well
B- The Free Design last because they're God's gift to pop
C- and I spread out the ''darker'' songs (Inner Dialogue,
which I know has horrible quality but it stays, Wendy and
Bonnie, Montage)... so the clouds roll in on the mix for a
break from the powerful UV rays every 15-20 minutes or so.

Don't worry baby is one of my favourite songs! you can't
leave that out!

Yeah I left it in after all. It's one of my top 5 Beach Boys
songs, I was only iffy because it's the oldest song on here
and almost seems like it's from a different era from the
rest, too pre-psychedelic. But it works anyway. I wanted to
use Disney Girls but it's way too long.

It's not old though, it's timeless! You can play that
anytime and you are not transported back in time, it just
makes you think.

Agreed, I just had to block the arbitrary numbers and genres
out of my head, because the music itself fits, that's why
it's there.

(''timelessness'' doesn't matter amongst these songs anyway,
that arguably works against it)

Make your own mix.

No but seriously, make a mix, you're well versed in good
indie pop, I like mixes, I can't just listen to my own. I
just started making a late 90s/early 2000s mix a few minutes
ago, I'll probably have it done tonight.

60s 4 life <3

Pop goes the mix, with love to Optimus Prime and the entire
GALAXY

Not even close to being done, a third of the songs were
givens that I had planned even last month when I first did
this, the rest is good but thrown together fast and I'm sure
there's better stuff I'll remember later when I listen to it
again. But I'm happy with it for tonight.

The Aislers Set- Catherine Says
The Aluminum Group- Chocolates
Belle and Sebastian- Legal Man
The Coral- Leizah
The Essex Green- Everything is Green
Freezepop- Summer Boy
The Gentle Waves- Rose I Love You
Gravehurst- Hope Chapel Hill
The High Llamas- Giddy and Gay (my favorite track on the
mix)
Homelife- Harder
Irving- Turn of the Century
The Long Winters- Blue Diamonds
The Lucksmiths- Myopic Friends
Marshmellow Coast- Seniors and Juniors
Minus 5- That's not the Way it's Done
Nada Surf- Blizzard of '77
Of Montreal- My Favorite Boxer
The Pernice Brothers- Bryte Side
Sea Ray- Sister Gone
Sloan- The Lines You Amend (NOVA SCOTIA REPREZENTIN')
The Softies- If You Stayed
Wolfie- Little Bee is Dancing
The Wondermints- Tracy Hide

Holy shit, you're not Nacmat.

Gravehurst should be Gravenhurst and I think I spelled
Leizah wrong but I'm not sure and don't want to check

Gnarly, glad you like it. Are you an Essex Green fan? That
''Everything is Green'' reprise is pure magic, amazing that
melody wasn't applied to a chorus until 1999.

I listened to this today and the Nada Surf song sounded like
a retarded inclusion, too frigid. Must be replaced, any
ideas? I was thinking, if not Blonde on Blonde from the same
Nada Surf album, a Beachwood Sparks or Olivia Tremor Control
song or something.

an olivia tremor control song might compliment of montreal.
i'm not too sure, though, since i haven't listened to them
in a while. i just remember all of them being part of the
same elephant 6 group.
