so. some of you may or may not recall. or...something. but
i mentioned before that i play with this little group outta
salt lake city called dark white. and we just recently had a
shitty little demo put together. and it's fucking shitty.
can i stress the shittiness part? because none of us have
ever tracked everybody's shit seperately and it was
goddamned hard. the levels are fucked, the tones are all
wrong, and we all discovered we can't really play our
instruments very well sometimes. especially alone. and to
weird tempos. anyways...i'd like for you to listen to this.
if you would. because we worked pretty hard on them, and.
well. i'm damned proud of the music, at the very least. we
can play together, in time, live, i swear to god.

dark white.

myspacefaggotswhat? nothing. that's right.

oh. and we were all really drunk, too, p.s.

a mistake we'll make a point of avoiding next time.

give it a listen.

i listened to all the songs and you guys are good at playing
your instruments. it's not really the sort of music i'd
normally listen to, but a big Thank You to the singer
who screams and doesn't sing like an emo pussy.

it's not as bad for a demo as you're saying. i've heard
worse production in "official ep's" from local people i know
and who have their bands.

this music is kinda DIRRRTY, it wouldn't sound true if the
production was to clear imo.

not my thing these days, but i would really love it in my
school days

i like Last Exit and A Deep Shade has some great guitar
moments.

i would have lots of fun jumping to those tracks in a live
situation

Goddamn, sorry Ambs' I forgot to say anything, which is no
reflection on the shit-hot music. I think it's ace and I
like it, I'd like to catch you motherfuckers live and throw
beer at you, that's how it makes me feel. I think the demo's
pretty tight for all your worrying about it, sure there's a
few sloppy bits (the switcheroo in A Deep Shade could be a
bit tighter) but you can hear the awesomeness that is being
coaxed from it's lair/bar.

It's driving to the pub at 150mph, it's one louder, it's
HOT, it's ROCK.

haha. well. wow. a bit embellished, perhaps, but appreciated
nonetheless. i'm almost kindof surprised you like it, but
then i don't really know much of your tastes outside of your
traditionalist electronic views, and our mutual love for
everything early nephilim (ever get your dvd by the way?
it's most excellent. the videos were surprisingly well done
considering how dated they are). but. uhm. yeah. thank you.
=]

AMBS', I haven't got my DVD yet, it was in an order with
some other stuff which seems to be delayed, damnit, but I'm
glad you are enjoying it. The director of some of their
videos went on to make some quite good films, "Hardware"
(with a cameo from Mr McCoy) and "Dust Devil"...

I like lots of music outside my staunchly unprogressive
Electronic tastes, though I am a bit out of touch with bands
of today. Some of my fave bands of ever, off the top of my
head, are Big Black, Jesus Lizard, Rapeman, Slint, Tad,
Cows, Bongwater, Galaxy 500, Seam... Butthole Surfers, Happy
Flowers.... these people continue to make me happy.

it's pretty good, dude. chin up.

how did you record the guitars? direct, or micing the amps?

also, if you have problems recording each part separately,
then why not record it live? all you need is a few mics and
a sound interface with multiple inputs. you also need to
watch out for bleeding. just keep the mics as far away from
each other as possible.

could you elaborate on how this was done? where did you
record it, what did you use, etc etc?

we recorded at our practice space, which is our drummer's
dad's warehouse. it's really nice, actually. he doesn't need
all the space he has so he just lets us keep everything set
up off in a corner. anyways, the guitar was a mix of direct
and a miced (odd word) amp. sounded better. our friend jon
did everything and had all the equipment. he just used
cubase to track everything out and then got lazy and never
really did any "mastering". bastard. he kindof decided
against recording live for us, because he didn't have enough
mics, really, and he just thought it'd sound even shittier.
so tracking each part individually was decided on, and our
drummer hates himself now, because he was off a lot. you can
hear it a few times throughout a few different songs. but
that's okay. the general idea comes across, and that's
enough for now, i guess. we're gonna try again in a few
months.
