Any Trek fans here? I'm currently working my way through
the Voyager DVDs. The show is not as bad as I remember it
being.

Next Generation will always be my favorite, however.... Data
is the shit.

I used to watch TNG quite often, always liked that show.
Nice color schemes and memorable characters. Other than the
original (I've seen every episode but that's not really much
of an achievement), and TNG, I've never watched more than a
couple episodes of the other ones, just never grabbed me.

I was playing Star Trek- 25th Anniversary on NES the other
day, pretty ambitious little action/RPG adventure.

I never really understood its super popularity. It's just..
geeky.. and not really in an intelligent way. It seems like
the majority of alien civilizations were.. ancient greeks or
something.

Also the "aliens = humans with deformed forheads" theme is
stupid. Okay, sometimes their ears too, but certainly not
below the head. I guess the oldest original star treks were
okay, but the newer ones with freakin politically correct
black vulcans and some stupid white ugly looking freak with
sharp teeth and a weird head are unwatchably stizupid.

Deep Space Nine is a good pick. The characters on that show
had very nice development and the wartime setting was sweet,
especially in the last two seasons.

I understand where you're coming from on the Ancient Greek
thing, wMw, and there are quite a few of those type of
episodes throughout each series. But once you get past the
cheese, there's ususally terrific writing and character
dynamics that keep you enthralled. And they throw in enough
sci/fi to keep it from being a history lesson.

I've seen every episode of TNG, DS9 and Voyager. I have seen
maybe 5 of the original series...

The purist says that TNG and it's successors have broken the
rules set by TOS, and they are in violation of it's ideas
and also it's canon by re-writing or overruling characters,
events, and technology by monkeying with the timeline.

But not me... I perfer to disregard TOS all together, as
there are so many discrepancies between it and the later
incarnationes. Not to mention poor quality writing and
special effects.

Watching TNG and Voyager has become a part of my lifestyle.
It's gotta be the only show since x-files where I'll put
aside 2 hours of my day no matter what to watch it.

i like voyager and next gen too, although i admit they are
not perfect, and the 'all aliens look like humans but with
one tiny facial alteration' thing does bother me.

but the best scif fi is and always will be farscape.

farscape is so well produced, its amazing really.
Red Dwarf is my all time favorite.

red dwarf used to be my favourite too, but the special
effects did not age at all well, and each episode seems to
have something in it that contradicts a previous episode.

one of the things that annoys me a little about the star
treks is that they portray humans as being brave and
courageous, always winning, like the whole universe revolves
around them (us). but farscape isnt like that, it seems like
every single character in farscape is faster, stronger or
smarter than the token human, and i love that. also no one
will ever be sexier than chiana, not even 7 of 9.

ps i am a nerd.

I think Kes is the most beautiful sci-fi character, ever.

DS9 definately. It got much darker and deeper than any of
the other series. Voyager was kind of cheesey, and the
loopholes were much too big to justify. Although it probly
had a better story than the other ones (although I never
watch enterprise, so I can't really tell from that)
