Deerhoof

Tuesday, May 31st, 3pm - 6pm
on Brian Turner's show

After two amazing live sessions on Brian's show in 2002 and
2003, Deerhoof are back for thirds! Tune in to hear John,
Greg, Satomi, and Chris once again re-write what everyone
thought they knew in terms of your traditional
guitar/bass/vocal/drums melodic noise-pop vocabulary, and
ably demonstrate that the bridges between the Shaggs, Who,
Anthony Braxton, and Caroliner aren't so far apart. But to
peg the sound of Deerhoof is unfair to them and maddening in
general; merely tune in and hear one of modern rock's finest
at yet another creative peak!

i think the best interviewers understand who they are
interviewing, where the artist is coming from, enough to
just have a normal conversation and let it go where ever it
leads them. this is usually a much more stimulating read
and more interesting for the subject, who is used to getting
the same five questions over and over.

yes, exactly, but since i only know most of the artist
briefly that is going to be a big big problem.

just study up a little before you meet them - definitely
learn what their albums are like and the names of them.
then just start them talking about music like you would with
a friend. let them just start rambling, then keep asking
them new questions based on what they say.

then finish with my favorite question, "what was it like to
know kurt cobain?" ;)

HAHA :)

im not exactly sure what these interviews will look
like..perhaps it's only going to be fictional..dunno where
i'd get two people i'd want to interview in 3 weeks time :)

check out this guy's site: LAZY_TITLE

he seems like kind of an uninteresting idiot to me, but his
interviews are rather good. he just becomes sort of friends
with these folks and you get to read the transcripts. plus
he interviews cool people.

haha, fantastic! :)

i'll have a good look at these, thanks!

an excerpt from buzzes interview :

"Oh cool! Okay, so you wanna do an interview?

Yeah! Whenever you're available.

How about right now?

Ummm. you have time right now?

Right now is really good actually.

Oh! Okay. Sure! I don't have any questions though.

That's okay - I don't have any answers!

Fantastic! Okay, let's do it then.

Alright! "

:D

yeah, it's really a funny take on interviewing - he's very
unprofessional. check out the one with shannon from the
cows/heroine sheiks.

"The supremacist popped out of audience and said he was
gonna kill me! So I popped him with the bottom of my mic
stand and he fell back into the crowd and I didn't hear
anything else from him. And there was this big biker in
Houston that was standing up front kinda leering at me. And
you know how the audience will stop watching the show and
start watching the confrontation instead. So finally I said
I gotta do something about this guy, so I leaned down,
grabbed him by the hair and French kissed him." -- shannon

haha :) i'll have a better look tomorrow..2.20 am and i have
to get up at 8. those interviews will sure help to get an
idea of what should it look like, because i don't want any
of that conventional boring interviews, although perhaps the
radio station has some sort of policy on this and there are
certain questions that need to be asked since it's usually
for an interview before the gig so i suppose it should be
more about their work, to promote the artist for the
upcoming gig.

yeah, you can do it in your own style. you could borrow
from some of the techniques you like and make it your own
interviewing style. and you can write it up however you
want.

what prindle has is just the raw data, what rolling stone
has is someone's pretentious essay with a few quotes.
probably you should shoot for somewhere in between. ;)

yes, i'll definitelly try a combo of different techniques
there.. although i doubt i'd be able to do it in an essay
way with someone i know very little or nothing about :)
although i think they asign you for interviews of artists
you know..i hope!

live is coming on in an hour and a half. that doesn't mean
that deerhoof will be on right away, though. it might be an
hour later or even two hours later. hopefully he will
announce when they will start. i'll be listening just in
case.

out xlyophone music followed by a lovely live electric
masada jam... now it's some intensely awful "hick hop".
ugh... :)
