Frequency Band Overlap?

when it comes to equalizing and mixing a track in a song,
is it common for the EQ settings to change many times for
emphasis, or to back one track off a bit because an
instrument in another track needs that frequency band for
the time being

it seems like a lot of work, but I'm sure it's done as
standard procedure by real pro, perfectionist producers in
music..

I'm guessing that's what those big mixing boards in
professional studios have the sliders moving up and down
automatically during playback?

I've never really heard of it, but it would make sense...
either that, or you decide which instruments you want to use
which bands up front and if you add a new one, just remove
that part of it while emphasising other frequencies that..
erh.. never mind me.

it seems you figured it all out by yourself so why bother
having the advices from a dumb internet forum?

I can see adjusting the levels of indivual instruments or
sounds relative to eachother, but why would you adjust the
frequencies?

I know, it's like god, am I an asshole or what! what
a question!!

and what responses. really. I want to thank all the experts
who took time out of their busy schedules to tell me that
they had nothing to tell me and why if they even had
something to tell me, they wouldnt tell me .. because of
course that's what I asked about. just in case there were
any other scandinavians that havent explained their disdain
for my postings, save it.. because I really don't care. I am
flattered, of course, but what you type bores me .. and I
don't like reading it. proud of you!

Or:

I think you could maybe achieve the results you are talking
about using a multiband compressor over a mix.. Meaning you
can compress something according to its frequencies.. So
say you had a track that was a guitar and a drum, and every
once in a while the guitar played a certain note that was
very close in terms of frequency to that of the drum... So
if you added the multiband compressor on top of that you
could limit or sort of, set the amount of the given
frequency that would be 'let through' at any time. So then,
what would determine most everything about the mix would be
the volume of each part throughout its length. So if you
set everything a certain way there won't be any certain
frequencies that crap out from being overloaded, but you
need to tweak the volume of each sound to get it how you
want it. and the the perceived volume of each sound will
change because they are being filtered/compressed/whatever.
Maybe that will help. probably not because I don't know
what the hell I am talking about and don't completely
understand your question.
