I have played before............ easy to lose money, and
I've found that some people are real standouts and will beat
me all the time....... good fun with mates though.

gambling is pretty big in austalia is it not? with all those
"pokies" etc :)

yeah, the "pokies" are a curse...... one of the guys I work
with has a $30000 overdraft maxed out because of his
addiction...... dosn't gamble on anything else, just the
machines....... and the pubs offer all sorts of cheap meal
and drink deals to get the people in.... the government has
become somewhat dependant on the income they receive from
them, so they're not gowing away anythime soon...... it's a
tax on the stupid

pubs have pokies aswell? here there's a limit of a 30p stake
/ £50 win on fruit machines in pubs and i think something
like £100 on other licenced premises.

it's gaining popularity here in the states recently.
probably because of all the tv coverage of tournaments.
it's fun, but i'm not very good at all. i do enjoy seeing
the games on tv on occasion.

Where I live, only the pubs have machines.... they are
limited in numbers 20 or so in each pub, and I don't think
any more machines in total are being released...... it's
been amazing to see how the pubs with machines have been
able to grow and develop in the past 10 years or so since
machines were legalised... they've all been redeveloped
....... it's killed the live music scene aswell, 'cause pubs
don't need to attract people with bands etc anymore.

oh yeah, i think the uk is planning to model it's new
gambling laws on ours...... suckers!

yeah, all my friends and their friends play it now (most
likely due to TV, as r40f says)

but it's still a damn good time

most pubs have 2/3 fruities in them max? gambling is for
mugs, though i have got lucky a few times. i have a mate:

"how much did you win?"

"jackpot"

"how much did you put in?"

"£2"

"bullshit!" (more like £30)

i play a hell of a lot of poker. i've been playing almost
15 years now so my game is pretty good. i play at a weekly
game that has been going on for about 8 years or so, so most
of the regulars there are also very good. it's kinda like a
poker dojo really!
