now i wanted to make a partition, and i couldnt, seems that DOS doesnt reckognize hard drive, probably i dont have DOS drivers for it, so i wasnt able do make a partition using startup floppy for new windows. i suck at DOS so i just cant do it in any other way.
and i need partition, 160GB doesnt need to be as a one disk, so im just downloading Partition Magic by Symantec. its supposed to make and organize partitions under windows, and ive heard different opinions - some say the ones made in windows works worse than the ones made in DOS. ultimately - what difference does it make ? i wont be flying with tha computer on a moon, so im just wondering, you freaky pc experts - what should i use, if not the thing im downloading now ?
hints ?

is this a secondary drive or a master?
I don't think you can partition drives that have data on them.

partition magic is good. anyway you need to be careful even when you think You know what to do. and think twice when you decide to do something. and while you install PM install it to a non-system partition so you can save the data on D: and/or E: when C: gets fucked. and take the time to create those rescue discs. you can run them under DOS and launch PM when windows goes boom.
last week i wanted to split my C:windows partition into two partitions. so i could have another partition for another OS. it ended a disaster. maybe because i launched PM from windows. both parts of the split C: partition disappeared. and i couldn't make format since PM and DOS were telling me different things about the number and size of partitions. in the end i had to call my mate to help me recover my hdd. he had to use a soft for my hdd type to format it.
good luck

ah well, the computer is new. i dont have anything important on it yet, so i loose nothing.
anyway, PM is supposed to run from windows.
for now i have one 160gb disk, no partitions. and i want to make some. i thought PM will do the work. so now what ?
the disk is of course primary master, and i wont take it out to change these little plastic shits in it, its protected ( warranty ).

You could try to reinstall the os, and partition it from there.

Ms XP Proffesional + SP2 Ms XP Proffesional + SP2
i was tryin to boot from floppy ( startup one made earlier in XP ) and when i got into dos and prompted format c:\, it seems the drive C wasnt reckognized. in fact it wasnt found. so it must be DOS driver for HD, blah blah, i dunno.

sounds like the harddrive is partitioned NTFS and you're booting a non xp/2k version of DOS...
like.. what's the problem with installing XP, then installing partition magic, then formatting everything?
if the problem is that you can't "get out" of windows in order to destroy everything, then.. i'd say what you should do is download a bootdisk from the net - not a normal windows/dos one.. one with a partition program on it..
what i always use for this ish is my linux install cds.. pop one in, boots off the cd, first thing that comes up is a partitioning program in which you're able to make partitions of all types, shapes and sizes. good stuff.
