I went to see this at the cinema tonight. Considering my severe doubts about it, i really did enjoy it. Of course some things about it could be better but overall i don't think it was going to really please
everyone. I felt that some of the really important dialogue was cut short but they kind of really crammedas much as they could into it.
So if any of you have seen it, what do you reckon??

it was better than i thought it would be. i wouldn't outright recommend it, but if some friends ask you to see it then there's no real reason to refuse.
i haven't read the books.

I really liked the books, and I thought they did a good job at transfering them to film. Not a must see, but a good film nontheless.

it looks interesting. i started reading the book on my computer but i hate reading for long periods on the screen. should probably get it in paper form sometime for some laid back reading.

excellent film, but needs seeing twice. It's pretty surreal and a lot of the insanity would go over most people's heads though. Marvin the android was excellent, Zaphod was a dereanged combo of George Bush and Laurence Llewellyn Bowen and the Vogon's are fucking hideous alien politician type things. It's pretty hard edged for a hollywood film as well.. you don't often see naff looking clay animation in a big budget film. Lots of British sensibilites in it as well.

It was entertaining enough, some silly mistakes and some shoddy directing made it probably pretty confusing for people who don't know the books. Loads of things go completely unexplained for no reason so the whole story is kind of fumbling in the dark a bit too much. For example loads of towel gags but with no background. Too much of the crappy romance too. I couldn't help thinking of some classic lines that they seemed to line themselves up for and then never use, especially with the tea being "almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea". I liked it but a lot of scenes just didn't have the best jokes in.

i read the books in highschool over 10 years ago. not recently enough to really remember much about it. the preview looked like they were marketing it like a sci fi action adventure movie when i remember the books being more of a smart assed cynical rip on mankind. so it translated to screen ok then? hmmm..!

It was complete crap, even crappier than the books. They took every powerfu,l high spot in the movie and made it a subtle, bland low and vice versa. I can list 10 essential things off the top of my head that they completely ommited. By the way I havn't read the books or seen the movie :/

Most people don't seem to realise that the screenplay was done by Douglas Adams himself and someone whose name escapes me at this time.

How do you put all the ideas from the book into that movie??? it felt long enough as it was, and a lot of stuff was left out. They pretty much ran alongside the book for the most part, and it was supposed to be a goofy satire on the human condition.
It was supposed to be tastless and over the top and dry.
Enough discussion. If you don't like it, you can go suck a fuck.

it should be quite easy to download.

I have no idea which meaning you could be referring to.
dictionary.com only gives this:
hark ( P ) intr.v. harked, hark·ing, harks
To listen attentively.
Idiom: hark back To return to a previous point, as in a narrative.

i saw it with Refund and some other dude last weekend; quite liked it, actually. i had low expectations (due to adams not actually sticking around for the whole thing), and it definitely exceeded those. certainly lots of elements that could have been done better, but it was still very well done.
here's to them making the "trilogy"!

I've never read the books so i cant claim any real insight, but the film on its own was terrible.
