So, I work downtown, and my job has me walking around all
day. I have been doing it for almost a year now, and for the
first time that I can think of, I say someone wearing a
shirt with an Afx logo. I was going to say something, but
then I decided not to.

anywys, anybody ever see something like that and start up a
conversation or anything? This is a pretty big city, but
seeing people wearing idm stuff is rare.

i used to comment on every industrialish t shirt i saw
because i was really into that kind of music when i was like
15. people usually reacted defensively, and when i say
people i mean men. must have been the whole
being-approaced-by-a-15-year-old-girl factor; probably
doesn't make you look very cool.

Clubs are different though... people will wear stuff like
that hoping to start a conversation... same with live shows.

I was blaring out slint's spiderland on the late shift in
work once, when a guy came up to the window and said "steve
albini's great, isn't he?"

I didn't quite know what to do with myself. It was nice.

Never seen an idm shirt, but was going to make one. I cant
find plain black or white tees that are small enough though.
:[ They are all either the wrong fabric, have designs on
them all ready, or would make me look eehhh 'frumpy' is the
word ha :) I am not frumpy! >8(

Everytime I wear my AFX shirt, people talk to me less than
usual. I hate this town.

I would beat them up and then watch on the internets to
laugh at them making a topic about someone beating them up
for being a knob jockey AFX T Shirt wearing gobshite.

well I was buying a CD in HMV and the guy behind the till
was like "that's a good album" and I was like "Oh, you an
aphex fan?" to which he replied "yeh but I'm more of a
squarepusher man myself."
There was a little chat and that was it. Felt good though to
see there are "IDM" fans around and about.

another time:

I was walking along the street drunk with my friend at about
1am and I saw a guy sitting in his room with 'big
headphones' on. His window was open and I shouted at him. I
said "what you listening to?" he said "chemical brothers." I
then said, "Do you know aphex twin?" to which he replied
"umm yes." I then said "do you know drukqs?" to which he
replied "no." I said "check it out" and off I trotted.

Last year I travelled by train and was wearing my purple
warp t-shirt. A crusty commented on it, saying he was well
into Aphex Twin and Autechre a few years back. I said: Yes,
they are quite good.

That's the only time I've talked to someone because of my
t-shirt...actually there was another time I talked to the
guy who's in charge of distributing warp in Norway. But we
discussed the Warp reflective print tees and how to best
preserve them in wash(!)
