yelps.

ok so don't bother telling anyone whats good about them
then. just expect people to just go out and buy them just
because you said they were good.

to be fair to bloc party, the album is not complete shit. it
has a few good moments. that first single they brought out,
can't remember the name, the slowish one is very nice (one
of the reasons i bought the album). i prefer the version of
"banquet" from the e.p, it's not as polished and much
edgier. overall it didn't really hold up. i lent it out to
someone and don't really feel like asking for it back. this
is of course how i perceive the album. i probably don't have
to say that.

what, people here actually buy albums?

I don't expect anyone to... most people download, so I
figured if they wanted to check it out they can download a
track... tracks I recommend are Banquet by Bloc Party, and
Rebellion (Lies) by The Arcade Fire...

why do I like them? I don't know, I just like the tunes,
music, etc... they're rock music, and while it's nothing
mind blowing, I like it...

Yes, and maybe more than you expect.

yeah, the arcade fire album is pretty good. i like that song
that goes "if you want something, don't ask for nothing! if
you want nothing, don't ask for something!" "c'mon alex, you
can do it!, c'mon alex, there's nothing to it!" it's like a
cheerleader song.

not emo. people here are just ready to dismiss anything with
the slightest emotional resonance and label it accordingly.

I think 'Funeral' is great. it reminds me of maybe a cross
between late 70's David Bowie, and that Broken Social Scene
album "You Forget It in People."

it's probably my favorite rock album since Interpol's
"Antics"!

I really could careless if you download it or not,
asswipe... I posted this thread for anyone who might be
interested in checking out a couple bands they haven't
heard... I figured most people have probably heard OF these
bands, because yes they are a bit hyped... and for some
reason hype on a band seems to mean the band is guaranteed
to suck... but yeah, I didn't really post the style of music
cause I figured anyone not living under a rock have at least
heard these band names before...

but yeah, thanks for acting like a prick... it reminded me
why I quit posting on this message board in the first
place... now I can go back to not wasting my time here...

is pitchfork media actually any good?

they gave drukqs 5.5 so they clearly don't know top shit
when they get thier hands on it.

yeah so because they gave drukqs a bad review that means
that you must assume from now on that anything pitchfork
says is the opposite... so if they give something a top
notch review, the album must be bad... I mean it makes
perfect sense!

"not emo. people here are just ready to dismiss anything
with the slightest emotional resonance and label it

oh, i'm sorry, but that is simply a huge
misunderstanding of the genre "emo".

drukqs is worth 9.2, they gave it 5.5

untilted is worth about 9.0, they gave it 7.4

confield is worth 9.8, they gave it 8.8

ok computer is worth 3.0, they gave it 10

nuff said about that

let's get this straight: "emo" does NOT equal "emotional".
this idea is an outright lie. emo music has as much emotion
as any other commercial pop schlock to any listener who
isn't a faggy 12-22 year old with thick black glasses and
overly-stylized hair.

second, emo music makes me want to fucking puke. that's the
emotion i get from it - nausea. it represents the
culmination of everything that's awful and wrong with
commercial rock all squeezed into one trendy green and brown
package.

how on earth anyone can come onto an idm messageboard and
say the fans of aphex twin don't understand emotional
resonance but emo has emotion--- fuck, that's the most
bizarre shit i've heard all day.

neither of these albums are emo... they are both just indie
power pop... straight up... haven't heard enough of either
of them to vouch for their good/badness though... given
their general popularity with "open-minded" people, i'm sure
they would appeal to a reasonable percentage of people
here... maybe...

Points: 14210 Status: Regular | Followup to evolume: #01576820

i totally know what you're saying. i remember it literally
was four or five years ago when emo started gaining
popularity and i noticed people started dressing like
idiots. i swear, the whole hipster/emo look is the
sweatbands, shoulder pads and hairspray of the noughts. one
day, those people will look back and go, why the fuck did i
dress like that?

but i really do insist on mentioning that emo is inherently
pop. there's no distinction. pop-punk = emo = commercial
pop rock. blink 182 = emo band = ashley simpson. same
exact shit.

and for the record, i haven't heard either band/album
mentioned in this thread and i'm sorry for taking it over a

it really doesn't apply... to set the record straight. this
stuff didn't strike me as fabulous, but it's got neither the
snotty-nosed indulgence of emo, nor the artificial
snotty-nosedness of the present brand of emo-tinged
rock-pop... from what i know of your tastes, i don't think
you would like it... but you're weird... and so am i. (and
that's not a backhanded insult to people who do dig it... if
you can, you should... i have a lot of friends with good
taste who absolutely love it... )

I still don't know what emo is, nor would I want to. Isn't
it just fey indie, like Coldplay but even duller with a
tincher more awkward, muted "rocking out". Well that's what
I imagine anyway.

None of the new ''emo-pop'' is emo, though. There's nothing
wrong with REAL emo, the term's just been abused and
misused. Oh well.

On topic, the Arcade Fire album is pretty good, but it's so
hyped up and sorta popular that naturally any topic about it
in a forum full of hardcore music fans is going to illicit
snarling and cynicism. Haven't heard the Bloc Party thing.

emo is overwrought punk music about the singer's
girlfriends.
