Anybody here with some nice classical knowledge that can tell me what I'd like if I like/love/adore Arvo Part? I can't stop listening to him and I hope the feeling's mutual. I've never really been hardcore into classical music, never been truly moved to start getting really heavily into it until I heard Summa, Arbos, Fur Alina and Tabula Rasa. I've looked into a few great artists in the last little bit, Henryk Gorecki, Hector Berlioz, Jean Sibelius and John Tavener, but I don't know too much outside of these composers (many of htem from the 20th century, I guess I like the new guys?), aside from the usual Mozart/Beethoven/Liszt stuff. I don't really need recos about the really big names.
(anyone ever see that insane Listzomania movie starring Roger Daltrey?)
For anyone that's played Thief 3, I loved the quiet, stark piano pieces that play during some of the levels, specifically the Captain's Mansion level. The quiet tunes on Arvo's Fur Alina CD really conjure up the same feeling for me, so I worked hard to track down something similar. I need some more of that kind of thing.

Avro Paert is kind of different... I know a lot of people who don't really like most classical music (they appreciate it, but its not part of their daily listening routine) and they love avro paert.

Sort of describes me. He doesn't always sound traditional, but it's quite low key and not obnoxious, not overly technical. I like that kind of thing, it goes down easy and sets a mood even when you're not paying attention. I find it hard to swallow something like Chopin's more hyper piano stuff.

Well, for more laid back stuff, I like philip glass. Although in some of his work it starts to get a bit repetetive (I like to think of it as droney), and his opera's are way too conceptual for their own good.

I like Arvo Part also. In fact a did a track sampling one of his pieces LAZY_TITLE
I love his choral pieces.
I'm listening to Steve Reich a lot at the moment do you know his stuff? Its more avant garde but rocks as hard.
