midi controllers

i know ceri made a topic like that some time ago, but as
you know the search function is down so i cannot bump it.

does anybody of you have any midi controller? self made?
evolution or behringer?

i mean i really need something like this. i just get crazy
clicking around on my sequencer like a retard and i would
want to have some "analog" control... so i thought about
buying myself a neat midibox setup. the thing is - i cannot
decide which one...

i touhght about a few setups

1. evolution uc-33 and afterwards, a midi keyboard like for
example
evolution mk_499c - although it doesn't really have to be a
evolution keyboard... but the price is neat !

the whole thing would cost me about 2000 zloty - about 500
dollars

2. this and that - two neat behringer
controllers - these are fucking huge! vinyl size each one
and 10cm thick! - and afterwards maybe a very simple midi
keyboard without knobs and sliders...

3. omfg!!! - or this thingy - 2500 zloty (over 600
dollars) - but all in one solution... 24 knobs, 9 sliders...
awesome :D

wht do you think about that? once again - did you have
contact with any of these?

If you are looking for something that is just knobs and
sliders, than the mk499c is probly the one for you. I would
suggest something that has keys though. I never thought I
would really need them, but they come in really handy!

I have heard some pretty poor things about the behringer
this. Although it would be neat to have
non-anchord knobs on my controller.

I have an m-audio O2. Its perfect for my needs (although I
like sliders more than knobs, so I probly will be getting a
knob unit sometime in the future).

Yeah, if you have the cash, (and the desktop space) go for
the omfg!!!

7 octave keyrange!!! and 24 knobs with 9 sliders!!!

I mean a slider unit sometime. Something with pads and
sliders would be neat..

Although now fairly overpriced/underfeatured compared to the
competition (it was the best reasonably cheap one when I got
it though), my Phatboy does me fine. I've got a load of
templates/overlays I've made for it for various softsynth.
Mainly, it's used as the "knob box" for Audiorealism
Bassline (303 emulator) I tend to automate sliders for most
other things, but occassionally when I want particularly
expressive panning/fading, I'll use it for that too.

lot of knobs - but for 350 dollars way to expensive

the omfg!!! is kidna really nice.... but 47 lbs weight and
2,5 meter isn't really a handy setup i could take into a
club when playing live...

64 knobs sounds like more of a drawback than a benifit. I
would end up forgetting where I assigned everything.

what have you heard about the behringer controllers ? this
is very importatnt for me...

behringer has never been a good brand for me - although
these babies look super-slick

but i know that doepfer is high class stuff... no shit

thought about the two - the alesis is really expensive in
poland and i don't really like it... it's evreything and
nothing. i mean - this keyboard is way to small to do
something with it (although you have these "octave"
buttons). and plus the alesis airfx controller (which is
shit in dark places cause it works with light) it isn't
really a deal for me.

the microkorg - may be.... but the mini-keys are way to
small for my thick sausage-fingers. the 16 touch pads and
the joystick are kinda neat - but the pads make it twice
that expensive as it would be without them...

these too have not enough knobs and options for me. i need a
minimum 24 knobs with some presets.

if there would be an 64 keys version of "omfg!!!" i would
buy it instantly

what i need are FACTS - people who have used these and can
tell me if they are reliable or not... i heard that
behringers in usb mode can crash your pc easily sometimes

i have the behringer fader. It's great, does exactly what it
says on the tin and the automated faders are great for
scaring your cat. Don't believe everything you read on the
net. no complaints!

wow this looks fantastic... haven't studied the site yet but
i has to be expensive like hell !!

behringers - audio analog mixers are shite, the hardware is
a bargain because they use cheap parts. - mixers get broken
very fast. so i'm kinda afraid that it will be the same with
the midi controllers - i mean i don't want a situation live
that i move a slider about 2 millimeters and it suddenly
raises full volume at once !

and this can happeln with shite faders

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2005-04-22 13:41 [#01573542]

hm... istniezott - tell me how much you'll pay for this -
they have no info about that on their site...

but this looks really slick.... i hope it will be about 500
bucks - then i would buy it

i read that their mixers were noisy just, not really an
issue when you're dealing with midi. it might not be the
slickest piece of kit on the market but it's 1/3 the price
of some other midi controllers that are basically the same
functionality. if you've got money exploding out of your
pockets by all means go and pursue a more expensive model.

depends what you are asking for.

i mean like for example analog mixers - a crossfader for a
vestax costs about the same like a whole behrigner mixer :D

so it depends.... but i mean i want to know if behringers
midi modules are a real bargain or real garbage. - when i'll
have to exchange the first pots after 6 months, then i
rather want to dave the money and buy a professional doepfer
one ?

now that's great - i have send an e-mail to mawzer and i got
an e-mail back that it doesn't exist....

hm... smells like fake

They might be waiting for the release date (late july)...
then you will have to get it then...

indeed, you have to wait till it's released.
the price will be 1000 bucks or something for a complete
mixer setup. but I probably won't be needing that much
stuff. we'll just have to wait till it's released.

that money...

yes but that would be for a complete setup I think.
I think you could buy the stuff you need for 500 bucks.
the 1000 bucks isn't even sure. best thing is to wait till
july.
