Most raves I've been to have been brilliant, and the crowds are always polite and friendly.
But I've experienced some shittyness at rock gigs (especially when I was in a band myself-granted, we weren't that great but the twattyness of the crowd was uneccessary.)
Ocassionally there has been the odd scary one at raves.
Any of you had awful experieces either in the crowd or playing live to a crowd?

had some scary shit at a rave in the woods once
my mate was hosting it (hes a big psy-trance nut , personally i ahte the stuff) and some guy was doing his set when a drum n bass fanatic came up and pulled a gun on the dj and asked for some drum n bass, it was pretty surreal!
had some positive stuff at illegal raves though, one of my friends is the spitting image of venetian snares and everyone thought it was really him (but they obviously knew nothjing about the bloke) and so we got loads of free booze and drugs all night! :D
my old metal band used to cause more trouble than the crowd we used to get banned from nearly every venue we played because we were a bit mental, used to put a trampoline in the mosh pit untill someone got knocked unconcious, was all good fun though!

That sounds insane.
Yeah, I forgot to mention that regular clubs seem to have some idiots in them just desperate for a fight. One randomly accused me of spilling his drink (I was nowhere near it) and began pushing me around because I refused to pay for it. Then some bouncy told him to fuck off. That kind of thing happens often at clubs actually, I just avoid them now.

im very proud that i did this and wish i had done this more often, on some guy pulling down crowdsurfers for instance,

lots of crazy shit, yes... like this one time when a guy somehow got up onto the stage from behind it, ran out between the band and tried stagediving (into a crowd that wasn't really prepared to recieve a diver).. the thing was he didn't really look like he was diving.. rather, he just jumped, and kneed some girl in the head, making her fall and hit her head on the concrete floor as well. He just got up and ran away while she just laid on the floor for a while (no-one really knew what to do, but they tried getting her up and out/to doctor). We saw the guy standing at the bar later in the evening, laughing, and were just about ready to go over and kick his ass, but we restrained ourselves (seeing as we all were in civil duty, which basically means we're "official" pacifists (of course I am a pacifist anyway, but some things just get to me))
this other time, before a Ralph Myerz concert in a concert place here in bergen which is more designed for classical concerts (grieghallen), people were packing into the hall, squeezing and pushing, and after a while, no-one could move at all (except for in the way the crowd was going). Suddenly I found myself in the middle of a crowd of really tiny (petite?) girls. I don't know why but all the small people were at the same place, and I was standing in the middle of them. Then, these guys started jumping and stuff behind us, pushing the girls to get to the front.. I mean.. they could EASILY see the band from where they were standing, 'cause the girls were so small, but they kept pushing, and the hall was getting fuller and fuller, and even if they wanted to, those girls couldn't go anywhere... there was hardly anything I could do but get to the back of the girls and between them and the guys and try to just.. hold them back by standing there... in the end, they gave up, and I left the hall too even though the concert was just starting... it was too fucking packed. No fun.

then there was the time I was at a hip-hop event with this girl I know.. in the middle of the second concert, some guys next to her started fighting over some girl, and suddenly, their swings were getting really close to the girl I was there with as well... I just switched places with her, and then, as I had expected, this one guy suddenly comes flying into me 'cause the other one pushed him (we were at the front, so I was slammed into the fence-ish thing). He turned 'round and looked at me in that "what?! You wanna fight?!" with his arms out.. you know the stance.. haha! Anyway, I got lucky and the guy he was originally fighting landed a punch in his back, making him go back to the original business at hand.
then at this other concert with Ralph Myerz (I've been to twenty of those, I think... get the tickets free...), I was standing at the front again, and this guy came up trying to push his way forward to the fence, and I wouldn't let him... he pushed for a while, then realised he wasn't going to get through, so he poured his beer down my back. I turned around and asked him "what the fuck?!" and he just stood there with a stupid grin on his face.. he's lucky I'm a pacifist... anyway, after the concert he apologised for pouring the beer...

there was this party where my mate and i played..after our turn finished i went out to get some fresh air.
so,i'm standing there with a friend talking about music...i'm getting out these small paper mints and offering one to him and i see how the bouncer is looking weird at me.
i haven't had the time to put the mints in my pocket when this huge guy comes with an attitude near me...grabs me under my arm and forcedly takes me a few meters away.
so,i'm standing there with him...he's all pissed and happy cos he caught a typical "raver" giving out extacy to a fellow dj...he's yelling at me...
bouncer:what were you doing there? me: nothing i was just offering mints to my friend bouncer: take everything out of your pockets me: i don't have anything ,just a pack of mints.
so,i showed him the mints and he's all oh sorry...i thought you were selling drugs.
right!

would have been funny if he'd said 'ok how are you going to prove that those are mints?' and you stuffed all of em in your mouth at once.
drunken mastah: would've been funny if they guy who poored the beer down your neck said you spilled his beer and then demanded you pay for a new one.
haha.!

just an hour ago - there was a geeg here, improvised and academic electronica + theremin performance, and a lot of people did not turn their mobiles off. even after the theremin player woman asked them to turn these small devices soundless there was a guy who did not turn it off and even replied his calls and talked rather loudly. Bastards, aren't they.

never had many problems. I once got more or less knocked out by a full beer can hitting my head from way behind. I blacked out for a flash second and remembered being a kid in snowball fights and geeting smacked by a ball of ice!
The brand of the beer was quite rare so i went on a search but found no one.
At least it wasn't opened and full of piss.

at one insane concert, there was a huge guy who randomly started smacking this small woman in the face. he was screaming at her and she was trying to fight back. it all happened so fast, no one had time to intervene. there was no security in that area, but luckily she escaped. at the end of the night, she snuck up on him and dumped a beer all over him, and he ran after her screaming like an idiot.

got my shoulder twisted quite badly hanging from a rafter in the middle of a moshpit. there were some large bald and pierced roadies from another band just kinda being manatees in the pit (it's far too much effort to push a whale). the two giants were far too pleased by my previous pathetic performance and jointly yanked my legs downward back into the pit. All would have been fine if my left arm was still clinging to the rafter when my right arm let go. It was a happy birthday, i must say. Twisted an ankle later that night but the show was so good that i didn't realize until I needed surgery on my shoulder the next week. Whee! Dilinger Escape Plan show back in '98
