Are you boring ?

Well I am. What I figured out is, you will never winn the
hearts or the friendship of people, if you are constantly
depressed, cynical, or both! Personally, I tried to act
"cool" but it often backfired, made me look like a dumb
tryhard, I got beat up in school almost everyday.....by my
friends. I don't have anything intresting or funny to say,
and I listen to boring music like AUTECHRE, and I hide
behind a thick layer of psychological bullshit. I
dunno...how can I become more accpted and cool ?

I'm not boring, just exceptionally interesting in a very
narrow field ;)

I don't know... sometimes all I can think of to talk about
is music or work, and that bores most people. Usually I am
pretty good with the smalltalk though, and generally acting
like you could care less works much better than being cool.

no, not comfortable. girls do not like that, indeed.
between friends of mine there is a kind of blackmail - if
you want to be interesting for some people (girls, boys) -
you have to be active in things they are interested in, in
this case it's protests, demonstrations, activism. I hate
what they do, because it's not massive, looks stupid from
the side, but I try to participate a little, or more, being
negative about the whole process and always joking angrily
about their activity, because i don't want to lose my own
points of view.

Recently, we had an argue because of music - they like
ideological music like punk, ska and stuff. I hate it
because it sucks loudly at all levels. But I never put noise
when they come to our flat, because I know they will suffer.
But, they decided to rail at me because of my noise
addiction. I had an ace in my pocket, telling them about
Merzbow the PETA activist (my friends are partially vegans
and vegetarians) and they shut themselves up a bit. Music is
dangerous, it can be a good reason if people want to quarrel
with you. So, avoid it.

I like one girl from the described friendgang, i try to be
more interesting when she comes by.

"Acting like you could care less" <- Yes, everyone should
not try to get too emotionally involved. But I would say,
that makes it HARDER for me, because I do not want to talk
about trivialities, that simply BORE me.

sense of what im doing, and thus they just kind of stare in
confused awe.

Your friends need to open up to the fact that people have a
wide variety of tastes and not everyone will agree. agree to
dissagree!

Monoid, what you said about boring trivial conversations. I
feel you. Sometimes i just leave and go talk to someone else
or sit there, smiling and nodding. I hate pulling something
out of my ass just to fuel an already boring conversation.

offline Skink from A cesspool in eden on 2005-04-11 03:55 [#01561121]

Obviously it all depends on who you are friends with. I am
really quite lucky that i have a broad spectrum of people to
talk to about most things. So maybe i am lucky, the only
thing that can get very annoying about it is the personal
politics and the stuff that goes on that everyone else seems
to talk about. I do have to wonder if people are talking
about me. So up's and downs.

I don't know if i am boring though sometimes yes, sometimes
no. I think more often than not i can be. If i can't think
of anything to say i won't say anything.

In terms of conversation, yes. I don't talk a lot, cause
usually I don't have anything interesting to say, nor do I
think a lot of the things people talk about are interesting
either.

Introverts sometimes just want to talk about introverted
things, they miss the bigger picture

And sometimes Extroverts don't see the picture at all.

And sometimes NON-introverts just want to talk about
'introverted things'.

That moods change [mods change, haha] and there are days i'm
more extrovert and other days when i'm not

as much as those are dispositions not temporal states

my english sucks today, after 4hrs sleep

i mean whether you're open to people or not depends on many
things

I'm sorry, I skipped most of the posts in this thread - has
the subject changed from whether a person is boring to
something about the interaction between people?

i wouldnt say i was boring, i tend to be enthusiastic and
abstract when i talk to people, but that just annoys them. i
cant help it though, the people i know are so very boring
they drive me to it. conversations often go on for hours
like this-

- hey how are you?
- im alright mate, you?
- yeah im alright.
- wanna go to the pub later?
- nah mate. fucking pub.
- yeah.
- i heard bout this new pub.
- yeah?
- fucking best pub.
- what that new pub down the corner?
- yeah.
- i went there the other day.
- fucking great wannit?
- yeah
- i know this bloke there
- yeah?
- fucking yeah.

at this point i would go crazy with boredom and say
something stupid like 'hey look at that dog over there. isnt
it hairy! someone ought to go over there and give it
a haircut!' and they would look at me like im an alien.

i wish i was boring so people would like me. :(

No problem, really. This thread is evolving. It could become
boring since it's a yes/no question in the topic :)

today i can't think straight so i just tend to quote people
:

"i tend to be enthusiastic and
abstract when i talk to people, but that just annoys them"

it seems quite the same with me sometimes.

but i'd rather be enthusiastic and
abstract than bored and cynical.

I like myself a lot, but I never bother to say anything to
people or do anything ''zany'' so I guess I'm unexciting.
But I like the groove I'm in and I'm not interested in
having the boring people around me interested in me so I
can't complain.
