and got developed this afternoon:
kitty
please see the larger version by clicking on the image too.
i think its amazing. i scanned the nagative with this film
scanner i got. i used to scan prints. prints are terrible
compared with negative scans.
seriously i am so surprised at the difference. it blows me
away.
photos that look terrible s priints are beautiful. its
because they muck about with the levels

What kind of negative scanner do you have? I am thinking
about getting one.

its a canon fs4000us
i recomend it very much.
here are some reviews
(also here)
i just got it last week or so.
it is slower then most of the newer ones (20mins for a strip
of 4 exposures at full bit depth and resolution and dust
removal). the dust/scratch removal is excellent, and as you
can see from the samples in the reviews. it doesnt lower the
quality at all, i think because it actually detects the dust
using some infra red method. all my negatives are in great
shape, and i just have been using a can of compressed air to
get rid of the odd piece of dust before scanning.
its only usb1.0 or scsi. no firewire/usb2.0 . im just using
usb.
the 42-bit color depth (14 per channel) really does make a difference if
you are going to adjust the levels at all. i dont like the
idea of adjusting much, but i figure im going through all my
years of negatives i should collect as much data as
possible. the files are 140mb photoshop files or around
110mb png files. both those formats retain all the data.
i love it. i am pissed off at prints.
one thing is that poorly taken/tricky photos are often
heavily adjusted for the prints. so the unmodified neg scan
might look worse then the prettied up print. but a good
picture is amazingly more better from the negative scan.
href="http://alibosworth.com/transfer/_print_neg_comparison
this is a good example: comparison
theyve adjusted the print to more of a sky blue, but you can
see theyve changed it a lot.
heres another
you can see how much they crop out for the prints too!!

i got on this whole trip when i had a big 20 inch print made
up for someone for a show in tokyo or something.
the print is amazing. and although the original print was
very nice, it was 100 times better in the big print. this
was partly because of the clarity but also the cropping.
so i decided that all my prints that i had scanned in the
past sucked. and then i looked into the negative scanners.
um i hope that the information is somewhat useful
i think this is the best scanner out there (if your okay
with a little slowness) unless you want to spend much more
money.

it looks nice but i realized that i want one for the sake of
having one. i just bought a dslr camera and i don't have
that much film that i'd scan anyways so i think i'll hold
off for the time being at least. thanks for the info.

hey apparently the hardware is the same as the higher end
models. its only limited in the firmware for most of the
features.
theres a hack to make it mostly the same as the other EOSs
or whatever they are.

i am so non-techie that i hardly know what you're talking
about. but i love my camera, it is really a nice one. plus
the weather is starting to get warm enough for me to be
outside for more than 5 minutes at a time so this summer
should be a fun one for photos.

I dont get it.
What's supposed to be great here?
The cat?
The photo?
The fact that it's a scanned negative?
The fact that you are secure enough as a person to post such
a huge file of a cat laying on a couch?

well.. here's a graph of the coolness factor of this
thread.

you can clearly see the point at which fuzzface made his
