an old roll of film

about 5 years ago during march break me + 3 friends went to
an island called quadra island, off the coast of vancouver
island, where one of my friends parents have a cabin.
it was very snowy and we nearly got stuck there.
there was an old wood stove that had a resevoir that you
could pour water in to make hot water and then bathe in it.
i took some photos during the trip on black and white film
and then developed it poorly and it didnt work out well at
all. the film was very streaky and uneven. so i didnt make
any prints or anything and just forgot about it.

then i found it recently all scratched up and curled up. so
i scanned them with my film scanner and some of them they
are actually very pretty.
pictures here
i especially like this one

there's some really nice ones in here! my favorite is the
ferry man.

some of the landscapes remind me of old italian cinema, like
fellini... a tree that looks like it belongs in 8 1/2 or
something.

yeah , i like those tub pictures, thats my friend ian.
my other friend kalman, whos cabin it was, brought bags of
cement mix with him. and there was this old discarded big
old ceramic/steel bathtub around the cabin. and he tried to
build a support fot the bathtub so that he could light a
fire underneath it and have a hot tub type thing in the
middle of the snowy woods. he was mad at us that we wouldnt
help him build it and then when he finished told us that we
couldnt use it. but it turned out that it was a failure and
the part of the tub over the fire got too hot and he had to
jump out naked into the snow. he came running telling us
that he wouldnt wish it on his worst enemy.

if you want to see some other funny pictures.
during winter break my friend came back to victoria from
university and had this idea to make a film. i was the
character in it.
i found a treasure map in a field then rowed out to tthis
island and found the treasure, but then this spirit capsizes
my boat.
heres pictures from 2 parts of filming

my friend phoned me from montreal the other day and told me
that he had just finished editing it in time for it to show
at the mcgill short film festival or soemthing. and it won
first place!

they look a lot older than 5 years. you ought to perfect
this technique and use it to make more new old photos!

i assure you that the only thing i activly did which makes
them look old is the using of bw film.
i just suck at developing and took really poor care of that
roll. like it was all underneath things and fucked up.

i think also making them look old is the rosey cheeked hippy
taking a bath next to a wood stove. :D
!
