so, any fans aroud here? :)

i only know their stuff from 1994 (when i saw them on their
devine intervention tour) on, so i was wondering how does
their earlier music sound compared to newer? worth checking
out?

i'd say "reign in blood" is one of the best metal albums
ever.
ever.

they made their quality albums during 1983 and 1988. reign
in blood, hell awaits, south of heaven, live undead and show
no mercy are the classics. it's speed metal with satanic
lyrics expressing the male ecstasy of bloodthirst, brutality
and hunting.

also check "Seansons in the Abyss", earliest albums show how
they had developed their musician skills

my favorites are Seasons in the abys, Reign in blood and
Divine Intervention

Reign In Blood is what you want. Bands have been faster and
banged harder since but no one has ever come close to the
elemental black hate of that album.

A+++ 10/10 HAIL SATAN

I saw them with hatebreed on Holloween. that was a great
show.

They have this album where they covered punk songs that is
good. Alot of their material is good

don't forget to check out Seasons In The Abyss!

hey, btw: you know that Dave Lombardo from Fantomas used to
be Slayer drummer, don't you? was it the main reason you
decided to check out Slayer stuff? just curious :)

i follow slayer since i saw them live in 1994, although i
think lombardo wasn't in the band at that time anymore..i
prefer fantomas a great deal, but i was watching some old
videos and came across slayer after a while again, so it
came to my attention that i don't know any of their pre -
devine intervention stuff :)

i used to listen to Slayer when i was going through a
'thrash-metal phase'. frankly, after hearing Divine
Intervention i thought this album was pretty weak... so
yeah, i agree with those who said their earlier stuff is way
better.

also, i have to say that though people are bashing Metallica
alot (and with reason), their 'And Justice For All' is one
of the best metal albums ever. :P

no matter how much i'd enjoy metallica (which i luckly don't
hihi), even if they made the best album ever..i still
wouldn't stand them..they must be the biggest jerks in the
music industry..

metallica fucking sucks and always has. now even more than
ever.

tolstoyed - have you seen the fantomas interview segment
where dave is talking about how slayer ripped off one of
metallica's songs? it's really funny.

you're not wrong. but as long as we're talking about music,
that album is definitely worth checking out - even if out of
curiosity. :)

hahaha, i hope after that the guys weren't sued by Metallica
'for using the chords E and F' :D

perhaps, im sure i've heard it before, i think i might have
one of their albums somewhere..i won't look :)

r40f, i don't think i read that interview..i only read a
couple and both from the gig they played here last
year..i'll look for it!
and another not topic related question - is that grohl's
probot thing any good?

it is a mixed bag, i like a handful of tracks... a few are
a bit grating , download a few first maybe.. the track with
lenny was pretty good.

that fantomas interview, as i totally neglected to mention,
is a video from a tv program. not sure what country it is
from... i think i still have it. i'll check.

probot i think was a "success" in terms of grohl
accomplishing what he set out to do with it. the songs are
strong homages. i don't like it at all, though. then
again, i don't like slayer or most heavy metal bands people
like in general, so i'm not the best to judge.

any slayer fan will do fine to just stick to the first few
'american records' albums. the rick rubin produced stuff.

reign in blood, seasons in the abyss, south of heaven...
undisputed attitude is a good collection of covers.

i don't like the newer albums as much, though they still
kick ass compared to most main stream metal out there.

i thought slayer was mainstream :) oh well..

i listened to those probot samples, but, i have no opinion
yet..maybe i'll check it out properly one day though..it
just isn't nirvana :)

i meant that slayer was mainstream... just good mainstream.
i can barely call them metal compared to some of the relapse
bands

ah, right, yes, sorry :) i don't really know any metal
bands..at least not contemporary..i like slayer because
they're sort of more heavy rock than metal, but i don't
really know what metal is so..
