This machine is the revolution of pocket consoles.
The future of gaming....
I just got one today. And im completely amazed by its
graphics, abilities, and control.... all the 64 old
school games will be hits again. And better games...
i think the DS will be a big big hit... and it allready
is.

And the PSP shits all over it in terms of raw power. I am
yet to be convinced.

PSP = mini discs
DS = cartridges.

PSP = probably more expensive, and more expensive games.
DS = acceptable price, and quite cheap games.... + ability
to play your GBA games... + an easy to use touch screen
ability. + no button that has trouble working.

looks good to me... :)

Just hope that the games will follow, because the psp ones
will come in shedloads i should think. Nintendo have been
silly with licensing issues in the past wich caused a lot of
publishers to go with sony. I hope this DS thingy will have
lots of games.

Yeah... i hope so too...... But they will have to if they
want to stay in the concurence. Nintendo have been battled
off all the time in the past.
But they have been quite concitent with their portable
machines...
Nobody beated them on that field so far. And they have much
more experience than Sony in that subject as they had quite
a few before the DS. But like you said: "i do hope that the
games will follow".
but i have a good feeling about it. Im pretty sure they
will ;)

Is it just me or does ecnad's avatar get a burst of speed if
you suddenly move your mouse around? Weird..

i have a ds... it is pretty average to say the least. other
than mario 64 (which is only ok) all the other games are
terrible.

When the first rumours about the DS started leaking out, I
thought it was going to be a game & watch with game
cartridges. The DS is so huge it's just stupid.

A modern g&w dual (wide)screen with replacement games
would've been so cool. Now it's just too big.

Polarium and Wario Ware are both excellent, and Mario is far
better than "only ok". The rest of the launch games are shit
though, granted, but Yoshi's Touch and Go, which is out
soon, will be fantastic. The thing with the DS is that the
touch screen gives you an instant familiarity with the
system, rather than having to get used to a set of buttons
or whatever you're able to control the games directly just
by touching a panel. My main concern is that there will be
too many gimmicky games who rely solely on the use of the
stylus - I can imagine "Super Signature Forger" and so on -
so far the games I mentioned have made use of the screen in
an effortless and creative way, but I can't see this
continuing for very long, which is why I think the PSP will
long outlast the DS, but it's still a good, fun system, and
at £99 I'm not complaining.

traditionally, nintendo games usually cost more than their
competitors by about 10-15 dollars.. i wouldn't expect that
to change with the ds/psp.

i totally agree... But not so sure about the PSP
outlasting the DS.
We'll just have to wait and see about that. :)

the PSP will be interesting when they'll have solved (if
they do it, but they'd better!) that scandalous square
button issue... (and dead pixels and all that, if that can
be done)

what worries me about the DS is when i see the appalling
state of the touch screen in the shop where it's been on
free try... i hope it doesn't get that fucked if you use it
normally.

imo, the only relevant question at this time is:

when will nintendo release a newer version of this console,
and why do i even still bother buying (portable) consoles,
if they are getting 'upgraded' as fast as, let's say PC
processors?

I just hate the fact of being a tester for nintendo's new
prototype toy, paying way too much for it too.

i just purchased a DS with mario 64, game is great and
controls surprisingly well without analogue controller,
graphics are glorious too, the metroid demo is awesome,
gameplay and graphics included.

I checked IGN.COM to check future games and i have not seen
anythin that comes close to interesting me, i have
followed nintendo all thru my childhood and have
NES,SNES,64,Gamecube. I dont like PS2 at all, i never
thought Sony matched nintendos flawless control system.

I just hope new mario and zelda games for DS will out expand
shelf life of DS compared to PSP

PS2 is really great.... but i think Sony should stick to
home consoles.
Trying to make it portable might only be a big fat mess for
them.
They should let Nintendo deal with that... They have the
past experience to create the best portable consoles.
Sony's first one will be quite buggy in my opinion... But
then i might be wrong.

I got a DS in November on launch day (US). The screen
doesn't have a scratch, I suggest getting Mario (of course,
it's worth the mini games alone), Zoo keeper (The touch
screen makes this SOOO addictive), Band Brothers ( a really
cool music game), and Wario Touch .

If PSP was cheaper and made by a company that didn't make
shit hardware, maybe I'd be interested. Fuck Sony!

compatable with other GBA games

Mario64DS was a lot of fun and even better than the
original. I went and bought Castlevania: Aria Of Sorrow for
my DS and its fuckin sweet too, I'm so addicted to getting
everything in that game. Lots of playtime invested, let me
tell you.

sony sucks
