[Music Software] Please help

I am looking for the freeware equivalent to Cubase
or Logic audio. There must be some very good programs out
there written for the public.
I am very aware that since I am looking for 100% freeware
(no warez) that I might have a hard time finding a quality
product, but thats why I am asking around now.

Really what I want is something that can compose midi files
and host vst synths. Everything else is just gravy, but is
still invited.

Thank you very much!

actually: no, there aren't.

with music you can't get as good programs as the
"professinally made" ones.

if you want to do the free software thing, you aren't going
to get anywhere w/ windows except for multiplatform stuff

If your looking for a couple free vsti that are made in
synthedit, but sound great, I just checked these out
the other day; Cortidesign

Check out texture and string theory.
