I just watched this documentary, if you can call it that, about Helen, the lady with 7 personalities. It was such a half-assed effort it really is an insult to other half-assed efforts.
So, there's Helen, 35, and she has different personalities. All that is real, nothing wrong with that part of it. You can clearly see a person that has gone through hell and back. Some severe abuse in her childhood.
The filmmaker is a childhood best friend who bumped into Helen by chance on a train. Helen tells her of her condition and they decide to make a movie to find out what happened to her. THIS is where the half-assed effort starts (uh almost immediately). Well, actually it starts out good and some possibilieties come up. They talk about abuse and Helen says she had a rough childhood. Ok.
It turns out Helen's been seeing a shrink (for 13 years!) who believes Helen is a victim of ritualistic satanic torture. Ah! But the filmmaker is sceptical and other theories come up. So.. there I am waiting for them to bring up Helen's parents.
It's obvious even for a deaf and blind midget living in the filmmaker's stomach, that the parents are the root of her problems. The ONLY thing we hear about her family is "This is a b-day gift from my mom" (they show a package) and then the filmmaker says Helen has no or little contact with her family. Really?! Surely you jest! No shit, Einstein! She doesn't want to meet the people that caused her to have 7 personalities?! Don't they get along?
The best part, or the most frustrating, is when they say something like, "We are no closer to an answer after this film as to what happened to Helen." More like, "We don't want to dig into this, because it's too ugly, here look at my adult friend at the playground".
What's the point in making a documentary if you don't follow through? Now the film is just a freak show where the filmmaker displays her friend acting like a 6-year old in public.

Was this woman from the UK? My parents saw something like this a few weeks back and apparently she lives in my area.

Yes, Clint.
It's so obvious they're avoiding the whole family thing. As most viewers probably assume she grew up with her parents and not a satanic cult, it becomes irritating very early on that they don't even talk about family.

Seriously, she lives right in my area. She shops in the same shops I do. Some of my friends are her neighbours. I'll try and investigate and present an unbiased report to the board ASAP, time for serious psychoanalysis.

I'll begin by asking my friends at college. Then I'll gradually move onto stalking!

There are actually many documentaries made about that specific subject, as she is one of the most famous examples of split personality disorder. I have seen a couple that are decent, and one that was plain awfull. As far as I know, they are all outdated though.

Its pretty easy to get all freudian with the way her case is looked at, but the situation could have just as easily been developed when she first started socializing with people outside of the family circle. Didn't her first personality noticably materialize at around the age of seven?
Honestly, I am pretty scheptical about the whole split personality thing as well. It occurs to me to be much easier to get attention this way than with, say, munchousen syndrome. Much safer too.
People with miswirings are always interesting, and sometimes scary as hell. I just finished having to deal with a crazy co-worker, who eventually got herself fired, because she had gotten to the point of nearly being nonfunctional. I was worried that she was going to start stalking me, cause she built up this whole vandetta thing against me because I told her that I couldn't get along with her outside of work. Its happened to me before (getting stalked) by both a male and a female, and its always wierd.

One creepy side of Helen was Alex, a person (kid) that shoots everyone. They were sitting in a taxi, when this Alex appeared, picks up a toy gun and slowly shoots everyone.
