Recently enjoying watching these classics.
Last week it was "Ran", the epic remake of "King Lear" with stunning set-pieces and colour.
This week i got "Kagemusha".... where a dead warlords double briefly suceeds in replacing him only to be eventually discovered and the clan gets annihalated.
I've seen "Roshomon" on the big screen recently and looking forward to Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Seven Samurai and Throne of Blood again soon.
Its his use of space and emptiness and silence that i love. His characters are fantastic too and he really knows how to use the weather and nature to emphasise the human condition.

oh, they're classics! try to find them. especially "seven samurai" or "ran" or "yojimbo" - those are good to start with. highly recommended.

the hidden fortress is my favorite. it's also the rough basis of Star Wars; a samurai master, a princess, two bumbling servants, various quests. etc.

Seven Samurai and Ikiru are my faves but really everything he has made has been outstanding compared to most films.
Hidden Fortress definately isn't one of his best... except to a Star Wars geek maybe.

I really like Yojimbo the most, and I listen to the Yojimbo theme like at least thrice a week. Weird swingin' tune.

i've only seen ran and throne of blood so far, and ran is definitely the best out of those two.

Yeh.. "hidden fortreess" is a bit of an odity but quite funny.
Yojimbo music?.... one of my fantasy "must-plays" for a dj-set... along woith the theme to "a clockwork orange"
"Red beard" is really great too... a nice little drama
