Mac heads - music player

This apparently plays formats that iTunes
doesn't. I'd check it out if I had a Mac. :D I recall Nigel
saying how there was no free Mac ogg player.

It spozed be a work in development. Saw it on the Reaktor
forum.

Audion plays oggs. I usually go for the aac-format, but
thanks for the tip.

Doesn't Audion cost $$?

Only if you need the extra mp3 lame codec, which I don't
(cause I found the serial)

I don't get how to work it/download it

interesting.

there used to be a /really/ cool player called macamp lite
x, but the company making it ceased development because they
thought itunes was better. i still don't really like the
way the itunes playlist works; you can't sort by filename,
for example, so if you've got mp3's without track number
tags, the sorting is completely fucked.

Kay. This is the other part of the mac v pc argument that
kinda looses on the mac side. How many programs do you have
to play ogg files on pc? 100. How many mac programs? 1
(maybe)

there's quite a few actually.

who fucking cares anyway, it's becoming 'the cool thing' to
own a mac these days or something. i like my mac.

iTunes is fine for me, I don't think there is a better music
player out there.

i'm really used to iTunes now, i'm not sure i'll bother to
change again but the seamless transitions, Ogg Vorbis
compatibility and different skins are really tempting.

you can use .ogg in iTunes, you just need to install the
codec into quicktime and they load right up in
itunes...they're a bit slower to decode but whateever...

itunes does suck though....the whole integration of
EVERYTHING into the program is it's main flaw...now a
modular version of itunes that let you organize things
better your own way would be my thing...

Or atleast a function that lets you specify the naming
convention of the files. I think iTunes rock, and I forgot
that I had the ogg plugin for it.

Good news on Audion being free though!

doesn't seem to work, is it meant to?

Not as a standard, but there might be someone who has made a
plugin that lets it play aac. I haven't found one though.

files.

probably people with ipods, that want good quality files
without them being as big as mp3's.

anyone got any links to good skins for audion?

I got loads of aac files. I convert all my new purchases
using that format, unless I want to use them in traktor,
then I opt for standard 320 mp3 rips. I'm quite a slut for
aac :)

I discovered Audion earlier this week, good for free.

I also use the most excellent VLC for playing OGG
files, as well as movie formats quicktime isn't into, such
as AVi and WMP (it plays them far better than that crap
Microsoft give away). It's also free.
