somebody told me i should watch CLOSER, because natalie
portman'd be "eye-candy". and the romance features CYBERSEX.

The Sure Thing (1985) with John Cusack and Daphne Zuniga,
best film ever made.

leaving las vegas is so romantic omg

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2005-02-13 03:42 [#01496981]

hmm, i watched big fish..burton's kind of romance i suppose,
but it was even more of a fairy tell than amelie :)

i was thinking romance more like 'intimacy', 'vendredi
soir'or '5x2',...something to do with passion and all
that..

i'll check out crazy beautiful and the sure thing (i like
dunst and cusak :), but i think i'll skip leaving las vegas
- i can't stand nicholas cage!! quite possibly the most
unconvincing actor ever.

you'd probably like "Une liaison pornographique" - a film
about a man and a woman who meet eachother to have some
peculiar kind of sex (which you never find out what it
actually is) after answering an add in a newspaper. you get
to see their meetings between the sex-dates. it sounds kind
of crude, but it's very subtle.

that film is written by the same man that wrote "Thomas in
love", which you also might like. this one is a
sci-fi-story, completely told from first-person-perspective
(you see everything he looks at) of Thomas. Thomas has
agoriaphobia and never leaves his apartment, only using a
kind of internet-like thing to talk to various people,
including his therapist, a state-run prostitution agency, a
state-run dating agency, etc.

it's very character-driven.

eehhh I wouldn't put it under "romance" though. it's a great
film, one of my personal favourites, but it's intense as
fuck.

it's very psychological.

Eternal sunshine of course...
Lost in Translation...
Romeo and Juliette (but i didn't like it).
Kill Bill can even be a romantic movie in some ways.

There are of course lots more cool ones that i can't think
of right away

I can't stand Cage either but he's actually ok in that film,
maybe he was really drunk for his scenes?

nice, i hope you've seen 'in the mood for love' first
though. Zhang Ziyi is amazing in 2046, I never thought she
could act before, not this well anyway.

Last Life in the Universe
(http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0345549/)

I haven't seen that, but it's on quite often on FilmFour, so
no doubt I'll get to see it soon.

I've always thought Zhang Ziyi was a great actress, except
in Rush Hour 2 of course but she didn't exactly have much to
do except wander about looking nasty and sexy.
