you mean music to cheer oneself up with, rather than
wallowing-in-misery music, right?

the shins...belle and sebastian...the smiths (good for
both).. the books...built to spill...modest mouse

i'm sorry, i suppose i should have specified.

yes, i'm under the assumption that our primary goal in life
is happiness, so when we're depressed, it's natural that
we'd listen to something with the hopes of feeling
better/happier.

offline Neodoxy from Sydney on 2005-02-02 22:35 [#01485869]

The Polyphonic Spree - Together We're Heavy
and/or
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
I cant even think about these albums without grinning
stupidly.
Ohhh...it would be cool to listen to them at the same time,
Zaireeka-style, i wonder what would happen? (cosmic pleasure
realms, bliss cracks torn in space- time, who knows)

i dunno, when i'm sad i often want to listen to sad music...
and i don't think i'm alone on that one... maybe the idea is
to draw out the emotion so you can overcome it...? i think
it's kind of an interesting question, really?

offline DeadEight from vancouver (Canada) on 2005-02-03 01:29 [#01485919]

I tend to listen to Pinback - Loro whenever I'm down or just
melancholy. That song just makes me feel all silly about
being so damn sad and all. It somehow puts things in the
proper perspective everytime I listen to it. Goosebump
inducing stuff.

if you want to cheer up:
Morcheeba - Big Calm
Martina Topley-Bird - Quixotic
...

if you want to accompany your sadness:
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - f#a#∞
(or all GY!BE for that matter...)
the song "Street Spirit (fade out) by Radiohead
Nous n'avons fait que fuir by Noir Désir (if you speak
french i guess)
...

if you want something in-between:
Rachel's - Systems/Layers
...

depressed???

You could lose your job, have your wife walk out on you,
watch your house burn down, and then be stabbed 13 times by
a homeless man who's screaming at a stopsign, but as you lay
bleeding in a corner of a filthy abandoned alleyway, you can
safely say, "at least I'm not a Goth Poet."

have a listen to the first 2 mp3s
