ha ha, here's a very bad quick example of an idea where, say, instead of having a beat with a bass drum and a snare ie. completely different things, having the beat be made of characteristics, all of which can act together at the same time without calcelling eachother out/interfering with eachother. Here the characteristics are: raise up, move left, and green flash The triangles are just the "background" on which the characteristics act. But a single triangle can be any combination of these characteristics or none at all. mmm yeah, this is totally awesome.. DEFINATELy.. oh yeah. But it reminds me of "swing" or whatever it's called.. like when you take a normal simple 4/4 melody then space it out in a way so that there is a gap of space every 3rd unit. Hmm.. that's sort of what I'm talking about because the space doesn't interfere. Wait, this doesn't make any sense. Well sorry for wasting your time. I've tried some things in music like this before though and it tends to sound best when there are only two different characteristics. What I normally did was have a normal beat of some sort but then have a characteristic play simultaneously in a different beat that isn't in phase with the other one, like 3/3 instead of 4/4 or whatever. If there's too many things phasing on top of eachother it's just too complicated and messy and you can't identify any of the individual beats well. a simple example is take a sample and go: c4,c4,c4,c5,c4,c4,c4,c5,c4,c4,c4,c5,c4,c4,c4,c5 ie. set down a background based on repetitions of four. But then make every 3rd a different contrasting sound. They meet up on the 12th repetition. I suck. |

Here's another quick retarded example of my retarded idea. This one is two simultanous out of phase "beats". The "flash orange" beat is every 3rd and the "quadrant move" and "zig zag green" repeats in 4's (hence out of phase). But each characteristic doesn't interfere with the others which is why it's possible.. for example if one of the characteristics was to flash red every 4th and another was to flash purple every 3rd, when the red and purple met on the same animation cell, they would interfere and one would cancel the other out (unless the colors mix together to an inbetween color).. This is stupid. Excellent electronic animations. xltranimations. |

Here's a properly measured one. I always wanted to know what an animated one of these would look like and forget if I've seen one before. In the above one the larger scales change slower and are thicker. In this one all scales change branch degree at the same speed and all are the same thickness. This one gave me some interesting ideas such as having the branches meet at the top, then have them come out of the bottom instead.. or when the branches reach the widest, have it appear as if that degree is kept but it spins 360 degrees left through the circle with diameter from your eyes to the screen, or have the top left branches serve as the trunk instead and do the same though keeping all the same degree changes etc. excellent electronic animation. |
