Analord 1 & 2, yay or nay?

I think 10 is better than both of these.
Albeit I am a bigger fan of Aphex than of AFX.
Last two minutes of Bwoon Dub are really quite nice.
Phonatacid and SteppingFilter101 are my favourites apart
from that.
I dunno if I'm all that disappointed... I like quite a few
songs off the analogue bubblebath series, but I think I
always expect a few bad apples when it comes to AFX
releases.
Who else has heard it? What do you think of it?

i also think 10 is better. but i also enjoy 1 & 2 very much.
they're both advancements in their respective styles.

If they had a little more pretty they'd be perfect. Like the
last minute of fenix funk.

In a few days, I'll love it like I do Analord 10.

from what i gather, this whole release is a huge
disappointment and nobody wants to show it.

it's ok to be pissed off you know.

J198 > That's just plain stupid what you are saying because
in the end it's all a matter of taste !!!

And I guess for people who like this classic-afx-acid-style,
it's GREAT.

And yes I like it a lot.

I like it even more than Analord 10, which is actually
really nice too, especially the b-side.

Phonatacid is one of my fav afx songs. I fucking love it.
All the little noises and that beat is soo groovy. Great
work. These realeases are more listenable than Analord 10
for me. Not that I dislike 10 or anything.

i'm sure there's people who like it, and i'm not saying i
don't, but i think it's safe to admit that everybody was
expecting more.

If this release is good, well then it's not good enough.
unless you are saying that drukqs is probably the last
fantastic release by him.

I know there's still a lot to come, but i'm guessing it will
all be just alright music.

Stupid of me, yeah. sure. This is only aphex twin we are
talking about here, the man everybody labeled as genius, and
now that he is taking the piss non stop, and puts out just
OK music, nobody seems to care, because it's still aphex's
music.

Analord is a little like drexcyia, but better. I agree with
J198, aphex's genius persona is working against him. These
songs are really good, but I'm not rolling on the floor in
extacy like some other aphex releases. He should probably
release more music and just not care anymore. Maybe that's
what he's doing.

I agree that phonatacid is a pretty damn nice song.
But, I think I am disappointed in the sense that I've been
waiting for a release that has a track that can top
Meltphace 6 (a long time favourite of mine). Although, I
shouldn't expect such a thing to arise when the genre is
acid.

"Hey, business is great!"- Fry
"Ehh, Great is okay, but amazing would be great"- Bender
I think when it comes to Aphex, we all live by bender's
logic.

;
I've just got Analord01 and 02 and i think they're very
good, especially Analord01 ; i'm not to keen on drukqs, i
wasn't to keen on early aphex neither but i think those
releases are really nice. It's getting better with each
listening.
ENJOY !

I think Analord 1 and 2 are most like what I expected when
it was revealed Aphex would be releasing a series of
analogue acid e.p.s. Beautiful and catchy Aphex melodies
with classic acid sounds and production.

I eagerly await the other installments of Analord though to
see how the style will progress. I hope there is some
harsher Caustic Window type stuff, and some more Aphex Twin
style stuff like Analord 10.

Now that it looks like the releases will be under different

it's totally different thing to analord 10, personally i
like a bit of diversity, so i hope next analords will be
different to these again. as for music, nothing as
mindblowing as anal10 but stil a beautiful, emotional music,
with some brilliant songs.

J198 >>

Well, yes, it's a fair statement to say that everybody was
expecting a LOT. Every release of AFX is hyped up to the
maximum. It seems that it has to be nothing less than
devine in order to have people call it great or superb. But
hey, not even Aphex, even though he is quite a genius, isn't
a god or whatsoever. So please, give him some slack.

Analord 01 & 02 are nice, great. I like them a lot. And I'm
not the only one. You have to see things in perspective. One
shouldn't get too much expectations.

Peace out. Aciiiieeeeeeeeeet.

while analord 1 & 2 is the best by aphex at that type of

I reckon I prefer Analord 10, in particular xmd5a, but that
said, 10 was a real grower, so I'll reserve judgement till
I've listened to 1&2 some more. Bwoon Dub is great though.

Yes, Analord 10 was just different Drukqs-type stuff,
nothing really mindblowing (but very good nonetheless), I
reckon 1&2 are quite a new direciton for him. As Pomme said,
Bwoon Dub is quite Un-aphexy.

Bwoon dub is my favorite. Along with Fenix Funk. He's
really capable of much more, though. I wouldn't mind having
a full length of the Vibert Windowlocker scratch remix
that's on the video. Where's that shit?

To me it sounds almost as if he has been a bit depressed or
something as of late. Analord has some melancholy sounds.
I suppose I was really looking forward to some of the more
beautiful and happy tunes. But these are still some really
nice tracks.
Does anyone else find "where's your girlfriend?" to be an
unusual title for a track by RDJ???

"Where's you girlfriend" is a play on "Where's your child"
an old acid track by BamBam, Aphex used to play all the
time when he dj'd.

It seems a step down from Analord 10. Both tracks there had
very nice melodies but mostly what i'm hearing on 1 and 2 in
the way of melodies are cheesy acid squeaks that sound
amazingly dated to my ears.

I am also not too fond on the retro style drum set he is
using, and I especially don't like the cheesy ass hand clap
that he used to ruin some decent songs like Bwoon Dub (the
last minute or two is fantastic though I will admit) and
Phonatacid. I can't tell you how much I hate hearing the
hand clap.

I've never been into RDJ's dancy or acid stuff anyways
though. After Analord I hope he discards the acid and comes
again with manic drums and/or moving melodies...

Didnt know that about the "Where's your girlfriend" track...
I'm so uncultured (or something).

But as for the handclap... RDJ (and my own songs.. which
very rarely have them) is the only artist that I think uses
handclaps really well. They are so good in Bbydhyonchord.
If anyone else uses them.. i almost instantly dismiss it.

offline Exaph from United Kingdom on 2005-01-24 04:41 [#01473874]

i miss the melodies too. i dont think theres enough here.
but id still give it a yay. i think theres a level of
maturity in this release. phonatacid works for me in a way
that tha did on saw1. the hand claps dont bother me; the
rest is too good. i think wheres your girlfriend is crap.
yay overall.

offline Wolfslice from Bay Area, CA (United States) on 2005-01-24 04:47 [#01473885]
Points: 4911 Status: Lurker

Listening to Bbydhyonchord again... you're right those
handclaps are inoffensive and don't stand out at all.... in
fact they give the song a sharpness that I quite enjoy...

However I switch to 1:35 on Bwoon dub, and I'm not hearing
any sharpness... only dull unadulterated hand claps that
sound like the first few tracks I made on fruity loops with
the most preset of the presets.

Don't get me wrong, there are good songs here.
Steppenfighter and Pissed up in SE1 are good, though still
under the par set by Analord 10.

yes but afx is underpar to aphex twin. its a bit unfair to
compare analord 10 with analord 1 and 2. itd be much fairer
to comapre a1 with a2. and i prefer a2. i think bwoon dub is
ok. but just ok.

I thought all the analord's were AFX? The binder says Aphex

I think analord 2 is better than 1 aswell. All the tracks
have something in them to really enjoy.
All the tracks on Analord 1 (except for steppenfilter 101,
which I really like) I think are okay.. but nothing about
them makes me really want to listen to them. Also.. certain
parts annoy me.
