Getting a new mixer

So, I feel it's about time to wave goodbye to my Gemini 626
and say hello to a Behringer VMX300. I have been scouting the
market for something like this for some time now, and I
found it somewhere @ the decent price of 1695 NOK (or 145
GBP).

I must say it looks hella nice, and it will be fun to use
it's effects send/return outputs. Getting some decent kill
switches and vca faders shall be a joy too.

Have anyone tried it, then please post your experiences, or
slag me off for getting it :)

Thank you.

Yeah, I was considering buying that one, but they cost like
100 GBP more here in Norway. Damn that mixer-tax!

Yeah, I think it was double that price a year ago. Perhaps a
new revision is in the pipeline.

guessing this is for decks, rather than recording then?

Yes. Behringer makes some great low cost mixers. I have the
silver MX2642, 4-bus one.

i bought my first dj mixer for my NYE dj set
similar but cheaper and more practical

behringer djx 400
117 euros

Good good.

I've been reading around, and there's one model, the DJX700,
which people had lots of problems with. I hope this isn't a
general case with Behringer, considering that they make some
quality audio stuff apart from DJ mixers.

On the other hand, I have not read any bad reviews of the
VMX300, so I guess I'm allright. When I get it in a few
days, I'll post a little review.

my mate once had a behringer eurorack-mixer.. it was a
regular mixer, not a dj-mixer, but there was massive
sound-leakage... even if the sound was turned all the way
down on one channel, it would come through if the in-signal
was higher than so-and-so...

please don't get behringer...the output is noise and the
channels are leaking sounds when you listen of pfl.

You've tried it then? Is the pfl cross-talk bad? My Gemini
bleeds sound like hell, and I'm hoping it won't be as bad
(although it is bearable)

same thing...although a litte less.

you could spare for a half a year and buy pioneer djm600 or
djm100

I'll see when I get it. I probably won't go for swanky
Pioneers just yet. Gotta finish my degree first. But I'm
confident that it will serve my needs until then.

well ive got a behringer, and have had to fix the input amps
on it twice! its a Ub2442. The fx unit on it is an internal
crap type, but has a lot of hiss on it, even at the 50%
return level with send at 0%!!!

anyway, its all cheap and nasty, i hear a lot of good
reports, but if u get a bad one then be prepared to send it
back for repairs, pain the arse, or fix it yourself, if you
can solder small components and know what u are doing,
either way its a pain.
maybe its bad luck on my part, and even great things can go
wrong, but behringer is more likely to go wrong than a SSL
console, but hey you get what you pay for!

I doing a bachelor's in Computer Science, but I'm currently
taking psychololgy courses to get som breadth in my
edumacation. So there you have it.

dave_g: thanks for the words. I'll probably do some
shielding if there's too much sound-bleeding, and look at
other stuff in it if there's any need. And as I stated
before, I'm only getting it cause I can't afford a swanky
one with my current "income".

Roygbivcore: Hell yeah, BPM-counters are for bitches. I'm
gonna put some stickers over the displays, cause they're
going to distract the hell out of me!

Picked up the mixer at my postoffice a few hours ago, and
it's great. I do not hear any soundbleeding unless I crank
the volume up to max on my amp, and that's only when I have
something playing on the line input and the input selector
is set to phono (on one channel). The kill switches are
excellent and the faders are sooo smooth compared to my old
mixer. The BPM counter sucks though, but then again I didn't
have any expectations for them to be good either. I'm
definetively going to put some stickers over the displays.
