how to explain that:

brandless camera's (that don't get tested for for no reason
on lets say dpreview.com) that sell for close to nothing,
though including a 4 or better mpixel chip, are still
nothing but complete junk, because they lack a ton of
crucial features that add to the image quality.

how do i explain, that a canon eos digital SLR camera is
extremely likely to take better shots with its 6mpixels,
than any other non SLR camera with more pixels?

So many things have to be taken into account, and you will
notice this when you look at in-depth previews and tests on
dpreview.com for example.

i am now using a canon powershot s20 with a 3.3mpixel chip,
and i am upgrading to a powershot s1 with a 3.2mpixel chip.

most people don't understand this. it pisses me off.

Yes. People are stupid. Even when I explain to them that
before the days of digital you could put identical rolls of
film into two different cameras and get drastically
different results in photographic quality, they still don't
get it.

There are many more factors than a number in determining the
quality of image. Canon even had/have a habit of including
a higher resolution CCD in there cameras than they actually
use or specify purely due to maximising the quality of
image.

I have tried in vain to recommend a Canon A40 2mp. camera,
which was on an extremely good offer, to people who are
spending the same on a no/poor brand 4mp. camera.

Yes, people are stupid.

Argh, i haven't a fucking clue about digital cameras,
really. The quality on mine is "alright" (Hewlett Packard 3
point something megapixel whatever)... the only thing that
really fucks me off is the terrible delay between clicking
and the camera actually recording the photo. And the fact
that it really overcompensates for low lighting conditions
with a ridiculously long shutter speed, my hands shake too
much to get a decent photo.
