a friend of mine uses Buzz with an IDM filter on a Buzz
Machine. remarkably good with no effort. but all good IDM
needs heart.

Buzz is a fuckin good prog if ur into IDM. It's the best
prog for it i think unless u write ur own software. just
takes alot of time and effort.

I've done few tunes on Buzz myself but the thing i hate
about it is that it's unstable as fuck. I've lost so much
shit due to crashes. and the Jeksola bloke who wrote Buzz
lost the code for it when his HDD went down so no1 can
update it. what a cunt!

Reaktor and Reason are supposed to be "the best" currently.
Buzz does get mentioned a lot too. I use modplug and have
only used it ever since. It's definately beneficial to get
to know your software so you can do things without really
thinking about how as much.

poshnu rules. all your tracks are made with fruity loops
right? You definately have good control over it. Continually
try new techniques and try new ideas for it to stop being
boring. For example, try to make a track with a completely
different style, you learn new methods and stuff that way.
But I don't know how versatile or elastic fruity loops is
but I'm sure it offers some different directions to take.

What do people reckon is best for ambient music? I have made
1 or 2 tracks that are properly ambient using floops, but
more by accident than design.

I use assorted free software and Fruity Loops. As far as
making the sounds, I use random programs and compile things
in Fruity Loops.

i use sawcutter to make ambient music

but thats just me...i'd recommend finding a software you
like...and getting to know it the best you can...once you
become really familiar with it...you can do anything you
want with any software, methinks

I have a cheap version of Sonic Foundry's Acid Music, and a
shareware program called Hammerhead (drum loops)...and a few
wav, midi manipulation programs...
Nothing fancy...of course neither is my music.

all i use is a wav editor and a sequencer, works fine, and a
keyboard with a guitar effects pedal

because the process i use to make my music is so tedious, my
songs usually never get finished (primarily a wav editor,
CoolEdit, and a drum synthesizer, Stomper)

I've been lurking on the IDM-Making List for about 2 months
now. It's actually great reading, and if I had the money to
buy any of the gear mentioned there I probably would.

Anyway, I do make IDM (the best of it is at
shameful.dmusic.com), mostly using Fruity Loops w/ a bunch
of machines imported from Buzz. I'd like to learn Buzz
itslef, but haven't mustered the effort to figure it out
yet.

I don't like buzz. Its a neat program, but the sound quality
SUX.

Converted from fruity to buzz back to fruity, cause all my
shit made in buzz sounded like it was made in buzz, which is
a bad sound to have.

Cheers for the mention of IDM-Making...

have just joined...

and yeah, Buzz is cool (is that true about losing the code
tho?...) & AUiomulch is pretty cool...

I find Reaktor to be too complex and it gets in the way of
what I wanna do...the music not the tech MUST always come
first...

CoolEdit Pro or ACID is good for multitracking but Cubase
VST is even better....

Depends what you are comfortable with/have time to learn...

What I like about buzz is that it's free, which means the
programmers can take more risks and make more experimental
machines. Some of the most innovative noisemakers are found
for free in the buzz package. Therefore I think it's an
ideal program for GEM/IDM/whatever

I'm on the list, been on for a week or so now. I found out
about Audiomulch through the list. Really nice :)

I have to get back on the Nord modular mailing list..if it
still exists.

BTW, Native Instruments is about to release their new
reversion of Reaktor, and appearantly it enables you to
interconnect multiple reaktor ensembles to gether at once,
without having to fuck around with too much shit that would
normally take you months to a year to figure out. You can
also edit existing ensembles with the same ammount of ease.
Baisically they making it so the novice can sit down and
pump out a relatively usefull ensemble.

Its called Reaktor Sessions, and it looks like it might be
nice. Absynthe for PC is coming out in a bit too.
