Heh... George W was quoted as saying to PM Martin that Canadians should "stand up more for our values." I don't think he realized that 75% of Canadians find bush scary and dangerous, and thinks that he needs to be removed from office.

Look what happened in Holland after the slaying of that film director. Burning of mosques, etc...That sort of thing never happened in the US after 9/11. No definetive hate crimes. Some Muslims have said the treatment of them in Europe is akin to what black people suffered in the US during the civil rights movement. They feel unwanted in Europe more than anywhere. Maybe this topic is rooted in a deep hatred (or jealousy) or America than a love for Muslim people?

"Look what happened in Holland after the slaying of that film director. Burning of mosques, etc... That sort of thing never happened in the US after 9/11."
What's this then? Maybe the hatred in the US was a bit less because they went to war twice, killing thousands of muslims abroad... The racist people here don't really seem to have their hateful feelings satisfied.
"Some Muslims have said...." Beware of news starting sentences with "some people say" it's often suggestive "news"
"Maybe this topic is rooted in a deep hatred(or jealousy) of America than a love for Muslim people?"
I don't know but that doesn't make the subject less valid anywhere. A Dutch politician suggested the same thing a while ago and after he did he immediately got lots of votes in the poll :(

i'm not gonna deny that right now there seems to be an unsettling amount of racism going on in Europe (all the different stories of black football players being catcalled by large segments of fans are rather baffling)... but i'm not entirely understanding why you're verging on apologism here... never once in this thread did i say i hate america or americans... never once in this thread did anyone say that... those that are reacting are simply reacting to a news story that strikes us as un-fucking-believable, outrageous... and furthermore, as Laserbeak points out, violence by proxy is hardly more tolerable than direct violence... particularly when it is as marked a violence as we are witnessing in our world today... that is why people feel the need to point these things out to people, to make people aware just in case they weren't... not because of (jealousy) or deep hatred for America... that sort of reactionary thinking is what has pushed us this far, and will only push us farther...
