anyone here suffer from some sort of anxiety disorder?

i feel intense dread about my future (short- or long-term)
frequently, without a particularly good reason, sometimes
it's paralyzing and i can't do anything productive for a few
days, sometimes longer...

Yes, I was there for a long, long time. A couple of months
back I went onto Prozac and everything is peachy again.

I'm actually quite annoyed with myself that I didn't get
that help sooner because it would have prevented years of
pointless anxiety. I would strongly recommend that you at
least discuss the option with your doctor.

I'm a wuss, but I don't think that counts as anxiety. It's
more or less chronic in my case :P

i'm very anxious/stressed, yeah... it even gave me some
physical repercussions, my jaw was
"cracking"/popping/sometimes blocking because i was
serrating my teeth too much during sleep... i can never
sleep the night before university or school starts again in
september or october, i know every year it's the same i'll
have a restless night even if i try to relax...

but it's ok i guess
could be worse : )

i think everyone gets anxiety in one form or another.

when there's a forced way you must live made for you, which
is generally very unatural and opressing,
anxieties/depressions/fucked-upness is bound to happen. some
more intense than others.. depending on your ability to
deal.

offline corrupted-girl on 2004-11-21 10:06 [#01401522]

you are forced to spend the first crucial 18 years of your
life in an educational system that was originaly developed
to make humans working machines, being conscious of this and
struggling to get those 18 years done, you make it out
somewhat still intact, maybe on a few different pills.. but
you can still cope. then after you graduate you have all
this immense pressure and expectations to automatically
chose to go back to this horrible structure of education for
another 2-4-7 years of your life. guilt for being
confused/indecisive/flaky, worried about what kinda job
you're gonna get, what your career is gonna be.. praying to
god you won't be stuck in some cubicle for the rest of your
life starring at a computor screen in order to have food on
your plate.
oh and don't forget all the social trauma you will endure
for those 18+ years.. and student loans and mindless part
time jobs.

so now, being in university-trying to achieve some kind of
'higher' status.. you sit and wonder why you're sitting
infront of a computor screen all day, and it's not even your
dreaded pre-decided career. after hours of comtemplating
what the fuck is going on you begin to think of it all being
a conspiracy.. school, jobs, media, people, society.. all
slowing adding their part into your mind .. adding to the
low self-esteem/no confidence/you ARE a worthless no good
piece of scum and will never 'make it' big in this fucked up
society so you are only good for this, right here.. this.
oh and don't forget how ugly you've become with those 2 zits
on your forehead WHAT KINDA MAN WILL WANT YOU NOW!? huh.
just give up. oh and here.. take this yellow pill, it'll
make you be able to get on the bus in the mornings to come
to your new monday-friday 9-5 cubicle computor screen job
you've always wanted.

yes. it has fucked up huge chunks of my life. can't eat,
can't sleep, can't be around people, can't concentrate,
etc.. it sucks.

when it gets bad it seems to be bad for months. not like
everyday anxiety, the shit is debilitating.

hasn't been so bad since i quit drinking so much. well,
that and i found xanax.

I'd say more confused than anxious.

To get to where you want to be there's so many steps you
need to take, it's just figuring out which one to take first
thats the problem

awesome. i couldn't have said it better... but clinical
anxiety is a legitimate disorder... it doesn't necessarily
stem from pressures.

i ve been told not to think but just to do, so therefore i
think, its a natural occurance, but its is supressed so when
you do finally start to use your noggin, it all comes out at
once. the rest of your life you simply are making
adjustments. why do you think some old people are so chilled
out, they have had their whole life to learn how to deal
with themselves and their thoughts.

well, it's good to remember i didn't event this. if i
rationalize, i can understand that i have nothing to really
worry about, that everything can be resolved with minimal
diligance -- but i've spent the past four days sleeping
tons, and when i'm awake i run to and fro, distracting
myself with a diversion, than distraction myself from the
diversion with another diversion, nothing gets done, i feel
horrendous, suicidal, awful, awful. my chest is feels like a
string strung so tight that if you pluck it it'll simply
shatter.

hey

i used to take paxil but i dropped it against my doctors
orders. that shit fucking sucks. don't take those things.
it made me nausiated and i had headaches. it made me think
even MORE then i was at the time, which is not a good thing.
also, i couldn't reach climax. i quit using that stuff and
turned towards the best thing in the world for getting
through the darkness: friends. (period). i'm still royally
jacked in the head from months of isolated depression and
way to much reading, but it's comming around. friends are
amazing, especially communicating, something i had nearly
forgot about during my wave of depression. don't fraternize
with the unskilled help.

i think i have an anxious personality. i am always so
afraid of being late especially. i always leave for work
like, a half hour earlier than i need to leave. i even
dream about being late to work (though i've never been late
in the 6 months i've worked at my current job, and only like
3 or 4 times in the four years at my previous one) i grind
my teeth in my sleep (my roommates can hear me down the
hall) and i am supposed to wear a mouth guard when i sleep.
but there is no way i can fall asleep with a mouth guard. i
am an awful person to have sitting shot gun in the car, too.
i gasp and yelp everytime something remotely startling
happens. ahh. i'm just waiting for something awful to
happen!

anxiety is a large part of my schizophrenia. when i can feel
an episode coming the level of anxiety will determine the
aural/visual/painful hallucinations. two nights ago i
exploded and imploded 100 times in one minute. and my brain
felt like it was being melted in hot lava, which causes my
ego to turn to a temporary goo without memory or self
awareness.

completely detach my id from myself. I think it could be
done with training, and it would probably make me enjoy life
alot more.

i have small bouts of anxiety and depression. i've tried
meds but they tend to make things worse. so far i've cut out
caffeine and have tried to get a good amount of sleep, eat
better, dance more. it seems to help a lot.

going and talking to someone, professional or friends, helps
a lot. sometimes hearing yourself as you speak about things
makes things better.

as far as Paxil is concerned, NEVER EVER EVER start on that
shit. my girlfriend has been on it for 3 years and has
become dependent on it. if she tries to quit, she has
nightmares, sleeps for days at a time, gains weight, and is
not happy at all no matter what is going on. be careful.

Yeah, I have fairly severe social anxiety disorder... I
think. I definitely live up to it by being very reclusive.
And it causes problems, to the point where in the last
couple of years of high school, and all through my two years
of college, I'd walk up the hall to class, and then... walk
by the door and go somewhere because I dreaded walking into
class and having people look at me or talk to me when I sat
down. I spent offtime reading in the library instead of
hanging out in the commons. I'm a ghost to most people. I'm
awkward but I'm not unfriendly. I'm very avoidant and any
people that tried to befriend me in college pretty quickly
figured that I don't want them around.

Thing is, I truly enjoy this lifestyle... unlike a lot of
people with my problems, I'm cool with it and I don't want
it any other way. But I know this is a problem... it's not
easy, because the system isn't designed for this kind of
personality. I have to work with people, no getting around
it. I have to talk.

I agree with Danbrusca in that medication could help...
well, I think I do. Never been on it so I don't know. But
it's something I'm considering. I don't WANT to, but I may
need to if I'm going to get back into school without losing
my mind.
