this is the best news i've heard all day. president bush will have his first opportunity to "bridge the gap in america" by appointing somebody who will protect our civil liberties. do i think it'll happen? nah...though rumor has it that bush is considering appointing him to the supreme court should the opportunity rise (god would that ruin it!).

"bush is considering appointing him to the supreme court"
that makes it extremely bad news. i knew there would be a catch.

i really can't imagine that happening. that seems too way over the top awful, and he already doesn't get along with the rest of the supreme court at all.

bush has repeatedly exceeded my already bleak expectations for the worse. what i've learned about bush in the last four years - when something awful like this might happen, it probably will. but i really hope you're right and it doesn't.

if this were to happen it would the gravest mistake anybody could ever make, hasnt bush ever heard of "separation of church and state" john ashcroft in the supreme court it the embodiment of the breaking of that rule.

this is only the first week after election day - we still have four more years of big surprises. i can't even begin to imagine what will happen next.

In a five-page, handwritten letter, Ashcroft told Bush, "The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved. Yet I believe that the Department of Justice would be well served by new leadership and fresh inspiration."
Speculation about Ashcroft's successor has centered on his former deputy, Larry Thompson, who recently took a job as general counsel at PepsiCo.

this is good news... but, kinda scary. i'm kinda thinking ashcroft called too much attention to himself, but now that bush has used ashcroft to establish the foundation for his agenda, i think he'll appoint someone to be more low-key about their religious zealotry.
you know... be a little more subtle about disolving our civil rights and all. now that ashcroft has plowed the patriot act through and given the position such sweeping power, they don't really need someone so bold. now they bring in the super sleuth.

welp, they've done it. they found someone worse than ashcroft. this gonzalez guy is the one that pretty much authorized torture (think abu ghraib), signed the OK to hold "terorists" without legal representation, and is one of bush's oldest friend. which means he'll do exactly what bush wants.
oh, and mimi, that must be dirt. since, obviously this person is a dirty hippie. :D
