I have a pair of monitor speakers and for some reason the
one of the right picks up a radio station that no one should
ever listen to. Any ideas on how to make this go away?

no i think its because i live really close to radio towers.
I dont have a tuner, these babies are just hooked up to my
soundcard and thats about it.

Get some better speakers, or move!

A lot of speakers do this. Mine do sometimes. The degree to
which it happens depends on location, quality of speakers,
age of speakers, shielding, proximity to a radio transmitter
etc etc.

When I lived out in the country, many many years ago, my
speakers would regularly pick up local police broadcasts.
Even if the speakers weren't connected to any power source.
Freaked me out many times at night.

Thats crazy. My friend has the same speakers as me, he lives
in a different part of town but doesn't seem to get any
interference.

Also, when i turn my speakers off, dead silence, so its
something to do with the current.

my guess would be to check cables, speaker in itself cannot
capt radio frequecnies, the cable can
hange their position in the room/house/appart
test them elsewhere to see if they act normal
if not change the cable that should do the trick

yeah, its definately gotta be the speaker cables, I'd buy
new ones, but I dont know if I'll get the same problem... I
was hoping someone had like a homemade remedy for this, like
wrapping tinfoil around something or using duct tape (i'm
just making this shit up for use as an example)

I have this too! I get country music especially when I put
my hand on top of it.

I live about 200 yards away from the radio station, however.
That might have something to do with it.

I live at the bottom of a mountain, but the top of it is
littered with crazy radio towers.

try balanced jack cables. they pick up much less outside
signals.

if you can get your hands on lots of lead, melt it into
plates and cover your walls with it.

otherwise, go to your nearest music-store, describe your
problem, and ask to test cables with better insulation.

This has happened to me before, I found that a long / coiled
cable is more susceptable (sp?) to picking up radio
frequencies.

balanced xlr or 1'4'' cables...
what kinda of interface are you using?
does the outputs of your interface have balanced outs? If
not then balanced cables are a waste.
