Chiastic Slide

don't understand how this album could be considered a
disappointment in comparison to Tri Repetae. Tri Repetae
must have impressed most critics with its stark and elegant
production; as has been said before, Chiastic Slide is like
Tri Repetae dragged through sludge.
The difficult label did not seem to apply to me either;
granted, this isn't probably something you want to drive to
or work to, but if you put it on while you're at the
computer, or just listen to it for what it is, the tracks
here are simply much, much, much more interesting and
captivating than just "difficult."

Cipater and Cichli are most often mentioned as best tracks.
I like them too, but Nuane and Recury get stuck the most in
my mind. Nuane is a jagged, punchy piece with a very
disconcerting synth in the background-- it's menacing and
creepy but undeniably cool. Recury is a repetative track,
but what a beat to repeat-- clinks & clanks with a wobbly
synth, gives me the feeling of people working in coal mines.
And, heck even for a piece of mostly static, Rettic AC is
cool and works with the album as a whole.

A brilliant and underated (at least by the press and a lot
of Autechre fans) album.

It's their best album imo. Well, at least it's the one with
the best combination of emmotion and technical brilliance (I
think LP5 was too inhuman and slightly boring.)

Mind you, Confield is increadable too.

But overall, Chiastic Slide just gives me "that feeling"
which few other albums manage.

ps-who's that wanker posting all those crappy messages??!
BAN HIM!

yes, for me anyways.

CS2x: tired of Draft? It's my most played Autechre and
most played mp3's on my computer. Mostly because I listen
to it falling asleep a lot.

chiastic was the first AE release i heard. and i instantly
loved it. so hearing amber & incunabula after that was a bit
of a letdown. now i love them all.

My mum, buying my birthday presents, rang me from HMV to say
there was a warp sale on. After her listing the albums on
offer, including 'Boards of London', 'Nightmare of Wax', and
the Richard D Jones album, she found Chiastic Slide. So
tomorrow as I open my presents I hope to find this one :)
Looking forward to it... sounds like a good mix of old and
new ae.
