Weird Phenomena!!?

hello.
i have a question i'd like some answers to.
i have no idea if this is my synaesthesia symptoms toying
with me
or if it happens to everyone.
ever since i was a little kid, when i'd be going to sleep,
laying down
all relaxed in my bed, i just momentarily see and feel (in
my head)
an object that is large and small at the exact same time and
it makes
me sort of dizzy and confused for about 2 seconds.
does this sound familiar?

I often get snippets of conversation between two other
people (always different people, no voices I recognise) just
before I fall asleep. Best way do describe it would be
either rolling a radio dial slowly or walking briskly
through a crowded public place. It's usually quite banal
stuff and it's seldom related to anything I've done in the
day (whereas my dreams usually are) I know I don't dream
this as I often "wake up" fully after hearing them, before
going to sleep. Stuff like, "...I must get that checked
tommorow" "No, it should be fine" "Yes I..."
It's only ever a couple of lines.

well.. I've had this one of a surface that is rough (filled
with holes) and plain at the same time... the rough part
always makes me feel very uncomfortable...

yeah thats a classic :)
one of my favourite things to do before i fall asleep
is imagining my mates voices in my head, cause they always
say
weird random stuff.

that was for ceri.
drunken: yeah.. had that one as well.
and i've actually tried to explain it to people
but its fucking hard.

and how can it be so confusing!???

yeah I get that

feels as if you're being dragged upwards away from
something. It's kinda hard to describe

I love that feeling though

Like when you lie down and close your eyes and its like the
inertia felt in a decelerative vehicle?....i get that a lot.

yeah!

i get the feeling that the thing materializes in my head,
cause it's like one can actually feel/sense it vividly.

separately.

i get the one where I feel like im outside my body. and it
feels like im either really close to myself, or really far
away...or im really small or really big...but i cant tell.

and i get the falling feeling, and i hear voices and
conversations, and i see things like nightmarish things,
usually not nice things. And then when I actually fall
asleep I only have nightmares.

but yeah, its strange these sensations we get. Interesting.

i get this thing where i feel like everything feels
reeeeeeeally far away and i'm in a huuuuuuuuuuuuge echoey
seeming room; i can even make myself feel like that, usually
when i'm about to go to sleep.

offline staplemouth on 2004-10-29 03:25 [#01375729]

oh also, sometimes when i hear voices, i cant tell whether
they are whispering or yelling. And it feels like they are
talking really fat but really slow at the same time.

good thread.

not really when I try to sleep, but just any time...
something happens and I become slightly disoriented while
alle voices coming from people around me become higher in
volume and merge into a wall of sound, and while I'm
thinking "ah, fuck! it's that again" in a really slow
manner, I'm also at the same time going "aah! why the fuck
am I shouting in my thoughts?"

once again.. hard to describe, but...

I think these things are all common symptoms of some sort of
faigue or something...

I've also, on a few occasions had white dots flying out from
the corner of my eye, but that may be from migraine, as I
sometimes get migraine-hallucinations...

offline staplemouth on 2004-10-29 03:31 [#01375735]
Points: 556 Status: Lurker

yeah i get something similar to your white dot thing too.

sometimes when im really tired i have open eye visual
effects. very rarely though. but like we have a pattern on
our ceiling and there are two parallel dotted lines, and
they were moving in opposite directions, like traffic. And
just the patterns were slowly waving, as if the room was
made of liquid.

i really enjoy talking and hearing about this sort of thing.

yeah, I get the (almost obligatory) small lightning-thingies
in the corner, but I've also had more extensive things like
the room falling apart and the appearance of animals (once
or twice) and stuff like that...

wow i never knew other people had this sort of thing, i
thought i was the only one.......i've had really fucking bad
experiences with this sort of thing through out my life,
especially as a young kid, where I cant come out of it and I
fall into a deep episode......it usually only happens when
I’m asleep and have a cold of virus, but it's only
recently iv started to control it. If I wanted to I could
fall into this sort of state, but im afraid to do so.

One night, after a session on the booze and Pharmecuticals,
i had what can only be described as an out of body
experience. As I fell asleep I felt myself rising a few
feet above the bed i dont recall seeing myself or anything,
but i remember frantically reaching out and pulling myself
back down, i woke up with a huge thud as i hit the matress.

I get that all the time. Like when you are falling asleep
and the inside of your head is expanding. and then you open
your eyes and your perspective is all messed up, so the door
seems like miles away. It's quite freaky but I kind of like
it these days.

I've never gotten that, no. I usually get this feeling that
I am infinitly huge; that is, once I fathom how large I am I
just get larger. Eventually it feels like my actual body is
microscopic. Usually this happens when I'm in a very boring
situation, such as class.

when i was a kid i had sort of dreams, but awake, og people
yelling from a far distance but i could hear them as if they
were yelling in my ears... that was awful.

i've heard that ear hallucinations are way more serious than
eye hallucinations and that people who get that are going
pretty bad and should seek prof. help before they go crazy.
it's considered a very serious thing.

no, they were actually talking, not yelling and i heard them
talking in my ear, but with a amplified volume, but they
were NOT yelling, very disturbing.

I sometimes have a feeling where everything is moving
incredibly fast but incredibly slow at the same time. It
only happens when it's really quiet... it's like my sensory
perception has been stepped up a couple of notches to
everything around me.

And i used to have weird pre-sleep sensations that were kind
of similar when i was younger. I used to have strange
"visuals" that weren't really visual, it was more a
sensation of "feeling" monochrome, very complex geometric
"things" merging into each other, quickly and slowly at the
same time. It always ended with a really "perfect" merge,
and it gave me a really strange sensation of happiness and
fear at the same time. Thinking back, it was pretty fucking
trippy.

I've never tried to explain that before, so it might make no
sense.

I also get those semi-sleep voices saying nonsensical
things. And people's faces floating towards me in the dark.

only 1 in 25000 ppl get it. when you hear a ringing sound
does it visualize in front of your eyes? or when you see a
bright colour does it hum in your ears like a warm synth
pad? if not, then you most likely dont have it.

I've had a few isolated incidents where i'm half asleep and
I actually feel like i just touched (or experienced?) an
object, the object usually has a texture i've never felt or
it might be a combination of all textures i've felt. Its
quite weird as I will quickly wake up wanting to know what
the hell just happened.

retrieve this feeling.

im having a hard time sleeping lately.. it happens quite
often that i see something (someone?!?!) standing infront of
my bed, it's a really creepy feeling, it's a really child
like thing.. but i cant help it, it comes just when im about
to sleep.

Sometimes when im really tired i also see stuff on the
walls, shadows of birds flying by and spiders crawling
around, just quick images.. i cant really tell if theyre
real or not when i see them but when thinking about it i
realised that theres no birds in my house, it's just my mind
fucking up.

it's really scary.. just the second when you see something
it's scary

"when you see a bright colour does it hum in your ears like

woah, is that really a symptom of something, cause that
happens to me, same with vise versa...ventolin makes my

symptom of, are there other symptoms I should watch out for,
am I going insane?

what some of you mentioned is linked with what was mentioned
earlier; Synthasthesia. There was a documentary on about it
about a month ago, some people have obvious 'symptoms' of
it. It also mentioned that it could be just a part of the
human condition, some people are just more aware of it or
have stronger symptoms than others.
Some of you also sound like you're talking about Astral
Projection, which I find hard to believe.

Sometimes, although not that often now, I would sort of
visualise myself as an impossibly huge person, but tiny at
the same time. It was quite disturbing, because you flicked
from appearing huge to tiny.
It was a bit like those images that don't change, but as you
look and focus it sort of shifts, like the elepant with the
funny legs image.

Also hearing peoples voices which had been extremely slowed.
Normally, it was just a single phrase repeated at an
impossibly slow speed, sort of like timestretching, only it
was perfect, it was the same pitch and formant, just scarily
slow.

This sort of stuff happened a lot as a kid when i had fevers
and things.
