Ok...
All you foolz usin the Torrents and SLSKs..
How "safe" are these to use, in terms of not getting
caught?
I know that torrent is it's own protcol, but to me, that
doesn't mean you can't get flagged by the piece of shit
RIAA.
I stopped using P2P after 2001 due to all the "heat" put on
sharing.
What about Freenet? Anyone tried that...
I would get a Torrent client or SLSK, but using Peer
Guardian or some other highly memory intensive program to
block IP's seems a little much. But that's what it's come
to, right? Not to mention all the dummy files and security
risks.

Quit being paranoid. How many people have been sued? One
or two thousand at the most? I'm pretty sure you're more
likely to be struck by lightening. Stop being paranoid. As
far as soulseek and bittorrent, I don't think they've been
targeted by the RIAA.

You don't have to lie to make friends.

Map, it's easy to trace bittorents.

A lot of times, the RIAA will put up MP3s, get the IP of the
user(s) downloading, and contact their ISP and send out a
notice.

This happens all the time.

Now, if you want SECURE encrypted P2P networks, I suggest
you use WASTE.

It's pretty badass :)

State your sources. And a more quantitative assertion than
"A lot of times," is needed to convince me.

If you believe the anecodotes posted on various p2p bulletin
boards, US bittorrent users have been targets of the MPAA
(but not the RIAA as far as I've seen).

The RIAA and MPAA don't have to do the dirty work - it gets
contracted out to companies like Overpeer and
Bay TSP.

Map, I believe there was something on /. about it a while
back.

And many people on various forums (hardware sites, gen may,
hardocp, etc). have shown citations from their ISP provider
that they were caught downloading movies (they listed the
movies they downloaded, too) and told them to cease. etc..

(just read invert whales post) Yeah, sorry. I meant to say
MPAA instead of RIAA earlier.

And Map, I don't _need_ to convince you of anything. I
could care less if you heed the warning.

ha ha?
I don't believe I stated I stopped due to the RIAA, in exact
quotes.
I stopped because I could, and I wanted to.
There's being paranoid, then there's being smart.
The only good thing that I see about P2P is that it gives
you access to extremely rare "items" that you would not and
could not otherwise just go to gemm.com and find (Like a
Hendrix a Zep tune even a dedicated fan such as myself never
knew about, which are completely kick fucking ass, BTW).
Anyways, ask a question, and get a battle on this forum.
*ding ding*

I tried freenet, it is not lightweight, mature or easy
enough for public consumption. I would like to recommend
getting some WASTE nodes set up and then sharing
the keys freely on the board here. That we we can all have
our gits, and it remains encrypted and "safe".
