my new drum machine

I picked up a second hand Korg EM-1 for $240 (they
usually cost $400 for a brand new one) and I'm stoked. I was
messing around with some of the preset patterns and then
added a few of my own touches, and made a 'complete' song.

korg em1 demo (1min32sec)

Everything was done on the drum machine, synths and
structure and everything. I love it.

thank you sir's. I'd say it takes around 2 days to learn how
to use like 90% of the functions. Theres still a bit more
that I haven't touched in the manual, but it shouldn't be
too difficult to figure out.

ive played around with a korg electribe drum machine, not
sure if its exactly yours (i think it was green)

those things are a lot more fun than software drum
machines.. so much more intuitive, it feels just like
playing with a toy

definately, its just a relief to make music without sitting
in front of a monitor. It uses a lot more of your brain
power too, trying to remember all those patterns, numbers,
and things you've sequenced.

yeah i was thinking about seriously looking into one of
those (or the next generation ones) but no one around here
has one, and they dont sell them in many stores in
australia. I hear the electribe sampler is really
impressive.

i also hear they are really really handy for live
performance.

enjoy yourself!

i have an electribe es-1. the sampler one. putting the
samples in is a pain.

i don't even use the sequencer on it either, i hooked a
yamaha rx-11 up to it.

then again i don't use them often either.

Pretty cool, weathered.

The little Korg machines are fun.

Hey there,

Yeah, that piece does work. Tell me, what did you use for
the keyboard sound? Thats what I really lack. Sounds like
sort of a wurly + delay + phaser + possible slight ring
modulation.

Dave

according to the korg manual, its a preset called "E.Piano
Chord Set" So it sounds pretty much as you hear it in the
song, only the one on the track has a delay on it, which may
produce a slight "wurly+phaser". However the bare sound is a
chord of piano keys that seem like they have the high end
reduced, giving it a warm, bassy feel.

btw, Hi. Its always cool to have new people stop in here and
chat. If you're interested in hearing new stuff, I run a
virtual record label here that features some of my
friends (that i know in real life and online), they make a
little bit of everything, jazz/rock/idm/experimental etc...
some rolled all into one.

I have to say though, the only thing I wish this thing could
do, is be able to have fx for each individual sound...

The way it works now is: Global delay, that effects
everything (however this is not considered an effect, which
is nice, although you cant have it effect a single sound, it
applies to the whole pattern)

Then the effects themselves, which is a good variety, from
distortion, ring mod, and reverb, to compressor, decimator
and distortion.

However, you can only pick one of the fx, set the
amounts/variables, and then choose what sounds you apply it
too. If you try to change it, it changes all the sounds you
applied to that effect.

So to conclude: this thing would be perfect if each sound
had its own fx channel as opposed to sharing a single fx
channel with all the other channels that have effects
enabled.
